Upset of the Week (per ESPN):

Washington State over Kansas State, Friday: Kansas State is more physical and is probably a tougher team than Washington State. But Wazzu has a skilled scorer in Klay Thompson and two players -- Thompson and Faisal Aden -- averaging at least 23 points a game. If they can knock off K-State in this Big 12/Pac-10 Hardwood series game, the Cougars can send notice to the rest of the Pac-10 to take them seriously. Look, Washington State rarely gets a ranked nonconference team not named Gonzaga to come to Pullman. This is the Cougs' shot to make a name for themselves and the place will be rocking. Beating rival Gonzaga or even doing well in the Diamond Head Classic in late December won't resonate as much as a win over the Wildcats.

Remember when Klay Thompson was the next big thing in the Pac 10, then went 5-15 against us, and Wazzu went 6-12 in the Pac10?

There isn't a school in the entire world I think about less than Washington State.

You realize Washington State is a clone of KSU right?

i have a hard time considering any loss by a frank martin coached team an "upset".

Cheesy Mustache QB might make an appearance.

This, only they have more research $$ and a smarter fanbase. Spokane International is their KCI. I don't think they have :AA: in Pullman tho

Exactly.  Their logo is totally derivative of ours, they have an uppity in-state rival with a track around their field.....Kazzu - Wazzu......might as well consider them a sister school.

Fully aware. I should clarify and state that I was mainly speaking about their sports teams.

Will be able to compare Washington State to K-State and Pullman to Manhattan on Friday when I see the Cats for the first time live this year.  Full comparison to come.  All I know is former Michigan and Arizona State basketball coach Bill Frieder once called Pullman the "garbage dump" of the Pac 10 upon his first visit.

I've been to Pullman and thought it was quite nice.  Much better than western/coastal Wash.  It was actually sunny in Pullman and didn't rain the entire time I was there!

It definitely would suck to be a Cougs fan as they lose pretty much all the time in every sport.  They do, however, have a pretty nice party scene going on with the University of Idaho being located less than ten miles away in Moscow.  I worked with a couple guys who went to both and they both talked about combo-u parties being incredible.
If there was a gif of nicname thwarting the attempted-flag-taker and then gesturing him to suck it, followed by motioning for all of Hilton Shelter to boo him louder, it'd be better than that auburn gif.

1) Saying WSU has played no one is an understatement; they have one of the worst SOSs of any  BCS team in the country to this point.

2) They have a couple guys that can shoot.  Thompson and JUCO transfer Aden are both 20 points scorers, hitting 37% and 42% from 3 respectively.  They have no other guards that are shooting threats outside those two.

3) Their bigs are average, and one of their best bigs, Casto, will just be coming back from an injury.  A couple (Motum and Simon) will step out and shoot threes.

4) Despite playing terrible teams, they are not a good Oboarding team, nor do they go to the FT line much.  This would indicate they are jump shooting team, both inside and outside the arc.  They are one of the best teams in the country at 2PT% and a solid 3PT%, but again most of that is two guys.

5) Hard to tell defensively based on who they played, but if last year is any indication teams shoot the ball well against them.  They did a decent job of not allowing Oboards or allowing teams to get to the FT line, but they allowed EFG% of over 50%, teams shot well from both 2PT ad 3PT against them, and they don't force many steals.

This is a finesse Pac-10 team that if the Cats come to play at all we should beat comfortably.  I really don't think they will be prepared for what we bring based on who they've played so far.  The only worry is if we allow Thompson/Aden too many open looks OR if we get an officiating crew that calls the game really tight, but like I said, WSU hasn't shown to be a team that draws many fouls.

Cats 88 - Cougars 72

Maybe if KSU was in Dodge City. Have you ever looked up Pullman, WA?
