I don’t really believe Snyder at this point in his career places a lot of value in his assistant coaching staff. We all know how aloof of an individual he is in most respects. He just thinks he can omnipotently manage the entire program at all levels. He refuses to delegate, he refuses to make the financial commitment to coaching salaries necessary to attract and retain the top level assistants currently in the profession, and he refuses to modify the suffocating work demands that have proven to foster time and again an extremely negative atmosphere. Those that have other opportunities leave. The ones that don’t, simply tolerate because there are no other options. As far as recruiting is concerned, Carson Coffman is all I needed to cement my opinion on his perception of the talent necessary to compete. If he had any qualms about his personnel, we would have a rough ridin' DT committed or addressed anything substantive on the defense by now in this recruiting class. He hasn’t and I honestly believe he does not perceive there to be a considerable talent deficiency in the program. I honestly don’t. What I do believe is that he naively thinks he can take what he has and coach them up.
I honestly think, at 71 years old, he is committed to pouring all of his resources into his own coaching effort in the belief that above all else, this is the difference between success and failure for the program. It’s an irrational sort of tunnel vision, but this is the path we are headed on.
