Yeah and that kinda sucks, I like Getz alot.  Dude plays hard, just wish he was a better hitter.  Watched Gio play a minor league game a couple weeks ago-  dude looks really good.

Getz is a good "clubhouse guy," problem is he doesn't have any real value as an average defensive second baseman who hits for no power with a low average and can only play one position.  He might be a good utility guy if he could play SS, 3b, OF from time to time.

I think Gio will be pretty good.
If there was a gif of nicname thwarting the attempted-flag-taker and then gesturing him to suck it, followed by motioning for all of Hilton Shelter to boo him louder, it'd be better than that auburn gif.

Yeh, I think Getz is pretty much just a placeholder for Johnny.  Similar type players but Johnny is more talented in every facet.

They aren't similar at all actually. Getz is a good baserunner, decent fielder, no bat type. And Johnny is an above average bat, average runner, below average fielder.

By starting Johnny we sacrifice a little in the field and on the basepath but gain quite a bit at the plate.

Will be interesting to see where Navarro, the guy from the BoSox via Aviles, ends up. He's a true utility guy, able to play 2nd, short, 3rd and a little corner outfield.. Hopefully, KC just DFA's Getz and moves ahead with Gio and Navarro.

Objectively observing Royals fans makes me uncomfortable about myself as a kstate fan.

these royals are very much like the 99-01 royals. Pray Management invests in the team this time.

10 yrs @ 10 mil per may end up being a sizable discount for KC if Hosmer continues to improve.  Dude is a bad mother.  (Look what the Twins had to pay Mauer to stick around and he's a hometown kid who grew up dreaming of playing for the Twins.)

I kind of like the new nickname for Butler.

And it has a story similar to the OOD name: http://www.pinetarpress.com/?p=8913

Don't know if there's any team that would do it, but would love to try and package him with a prospect for a true front of the rotation starter over the winter.

Would rather trade Melky and one of the prospects for a solid #2 or 3 guy.  But, I also have no idea what type of deal we signed Melky to.  I like Billy as a DH.

Anyone who doesn't want Butler is an idiot.  Butler is 25 years old and won't hit his prime until 27 or so.  Yet, he is still far and away one of the best DH's in the games.  Obviously he is a turd of a 1-bagger, but he is fine to give Hosmer a rest once a week.  Butler straight produces.  He is third among all DH's with a 135 ops+, the only guys in front of him are Big Papi and Travis Hafner.

If there was a gif of nicname thwarting the attempted-flag-taker and then gesturing him to suck it, followed by motioning for all of Hilton Shelter to boo him louder, it'd be better than that auburn gif.

Keep melky until Cain is good and damned ready.  Nothing wrong with keeping butler as a DH as long as he's reasonable about his salary.  The Team needs starting pitching, and will have to go to the free agent market and spend some cash to be competitive.

The only way that you trade Butler is if KC gets a surefire #1 or high #2 starter.  Butler doesn't bring that.  Butler also has a club friendly contract.

BTW, Giavotella just got the call.  <---- :woot:

Cain has been tearing up triple A, he should be ready next season.  Any idea why Navarro has started the last 2 games?  Moose dinged up?

Billy is in the 1st year of a long term deal. He's not going anywhere. As far as Cain and Melky go, Cain is ready - he's batting over 300, OPSing over 850 and playing a great center field. But Melky is playing his ass off. I believe Melky signed a one year deal with a club option for a 2nd year. If I'm remembering that right, we will pick up that option and keep him around another year. I'd rather trade Frenchy, shift Melky to right and hand center over to Cain.

We desperately need a frontline starter, but this year's free agent class is pretty sorry. Best bet is to try and package a trade for someone like Clayton Kershaw.

I have a hard time believing that DM will trade Frenchy.  I also have no problem with an OF rotation that includes Gordon, Melky, Frenchy, and Cain for next season.  The problem is that Frenchy has said that he isn't willing to do a platoon, which is bad because he mashes vs LHP and is pretty bad vs. RHP.  DM also likes "clubhouse guys" which Frenchy is.

I'd personally like to see KC keep all of them, Gordon can still play in field from time to time if need be, and having four quality OF is always a good thing.

Read that Yost wanted to give him a couple of days off to work on his swing with Seitz without having to deal with the pressure of game situations.

Kinda of nice to actually have a logjam of talent in the OF.  Mitch has also done a nice job this year, both pinch hitting and making spot starts.

Lough is also playing really well at AAA. It would be a bit of a waste to keep both Frenchy and Melky. I want to keep Melky and flip Frenchy. But as nicname said above, DM is far too in love with French. With one or two well-above average starters, this team could take the division next year. Really looking forward to the day that being a Royals fan finally pays off..
