BL (same as it was when you started this insane bout of mongoloidism) is we're not gonna trade Duffy. But if we wanted to improve our SP depth he's one of the guys with value that could fetch several SP's.

Posse thoughts on the 2 relievers we acquired. Will give thoughts on Cahill after that.

1) I really like the look of Buchter. Big 6'4 260 lefty. Here is his statline in 16'-17' :
.176/.279/.334 with 125 K in 101.1 Innings (49 BB). LH hit .159 off of him, RH hit .184 off of him.
He is under control until 2022, when he becomes FA

2) Maurer was the Padres setup guy for first 3 months last year, and then became closer the final 3 months. Had a 3.09 with 13 saves in those 3 months. He's struggled this year as their closer. A high 5.72 ERA, 20 saves but also has 4 BS and 4 losses. He is 26 and not a FA until 2020.

Cahill has 11 starts this year with a 3.69 ERA. 5 of the starts he gave 0-1 runs. 7 of the 11 starts were productive outings. Now he only has 14 total starts since 2014. So not a lot to go off of to know how well he may do as a #4/5 starter for us rest of the year. In his 11 starts, if you take out the Pitcher ABs, he is allowing a .333 OBP & .407 Slug (.740 OPS)

He was traded to the Cubs after AS break in 2015. He was a solid Reliever for the Cubs in 15' & 16'.
He allowed a OPS of under .600 (about .595) for them. Signed 1 yr deal with SD this season

Buchter pitched in 1 inning in 2014. That was his only MLB appearance before pitching in the big leagues in 16'-17'. It's all about how much time you spend on a MLB roster.
He will be up for arbitration with us in 19' 20' and 21' before becoming FA in 2022

All of that in less than 2 months.
First 2 reach tonight in the 6th....you MUST take him out. He clearly unravels quickly. He gets hit hard & loses command, walking people.

Hammel just isn't very good, and he works really slow, which makes him boring to watch. Sadly, Cahill is basically Hammel with slighly worse stuff and slightly better command.

A will take a pitcher going 5.0 innings giving up 1 run every time he goes out.
You don't want all 5 starting pitchers to have 6th inning issues, but it's stupid to not pitch your bullpen when Hammel has shown struggles 3rd time through the lineup. You just must have a quick hook when he gets into trouble in the 5th/6th.

Ned doesn't want to use a bunch of relievers after 5 scoreless by starter, but because he didn't pull Hammel quicker, we are on our 5th bullpen guy right now. This has happened several times now.
Not the first time this has backfired on him with Hammel starting
