What's so weird about Holland is that he was only throwing like 87-88 mph when he was trying out for teams and now he's god status again.

With just a mildly ok offseason in either 2016 or 2017 this is a World Series team.

Why did no one give Luke Hochevar a shot?

I guess rib removal can have complications.

Quote
The success rate for players returning from TOS is encouraging. Yet, it is still a serious procedure, one that includes the removal of a rib — a first rib resection — near the shoulder. Hochevar faced complications after his procedure that have prevented him from pitching this season. He is expected to return in 2018. Karns said his surgery will be performed by Gregory Pearl, a specialist based in Dallas.

I mean, I didn't realize it involved removing a rib. That's crazy.

Oh my

I mean maybe not, but Dayton has had 2 crappy offseasons in a row and we're still a p good team.

True. To be fair, a big reason were a p good team now is because Dayton had a lot of good off-seasons before that. Plus world champs, etc.

Couple things in reference to the MoCat/ FSD back and forth....

1) Reds were 20 out in the Division and 11.0 back of WC2 spot when they traded Cueto

2) Lamb and Reed haven't been good at all since they left here 2 years ago.

Reed has appeared in 17 MLB games, 11 as a starter. ERA of 7.15, WHIP of 1.77.
27 starts in the minors for him, an ERA of 3.45

Lamb had 24 MLB starts. ERA at 6.17, WHIP of 1.60, 12 minor league starts in 16'-17' with 6.48 ERA. He's not even with the Reds anymore and has not pitched in a MLB game this season

Finnegan has had some success. ERA of 4.48 in 37 Appearances (35 as starter) in 16'-17'. However, injuries have now begun to happen. He had an injury to a rotator cuff muscle that landed him on DL twice this year. He also had another injury and had surgery to repair a torn labrum in his shoulder. Just 13.0 Innings pitched in 2017.

[We need starting pitching more than we need a middling 2b. Torres can at least switch hit and isn't a horrible person.

This is the second reference I've seen lately to Whit being a horrible person (allegedly).  What's up?

I like it. Cahill can be the 5th starter, plus 2 more arms for the pen. Losing Strahm is worth unloading Wood. JMHO.

Maurer was the Padres' closer, right? would think that means it's a solid get.

Like the Reds did.
LOL what was the reds record when they gave up their best pitcher for 3 prospects?

I didn't know the royals should wave the white flag while 1.5 games back in the division.

Why does anyone engage FSD. I regret it

Giant gaping anuses just crap on everything. Also, your original point still stands, those guys weren't starters then and it wasn't their intent to be starters. I mean, lol at trading Duffy unless you are getting a Kershaw or Scherzer out of that deal.

Guys, I think I love this trade? Buchter is good, Cahill has been better than Wood, and Maurer's underlying stats look a lot better than his newspaper stats
:adios:
