morales can look so bad in some at bats.

Salvy looks horrible in like 80% of his ABs

This post was perfect timing

Salvy is so close to being one of the best players in the game. His plate discipline holds him back so much.

herrera is throwing so well lately.

8 of last 12 outs he has are via the K.  The 3rd pitch he now has is a Huge asset

Yep. Still, for being a catcher in the post steroid era, he's pretty damn good.

OK, Scribe, maybe I'm missing something here. What does being a catcher in the post-roid era have to do with anything, and especially Perez?

Offensively, his numbers may not be as good as a catcher during say, the 1990s. Because all offensive numbers are down in the last 10 years or so, Sal's production compares better than it would have when hitting 15 to 20 homers at any position was more common.

Catchers don't hit like Mike Piazza and Ivan Rodriguez for like 90% of baseball history

I'd add that because runs per game are down, his intangibles including leadership and pitch calling are even more valuable.

If sal had more plate discipline we don't beat the A's in 2014 and 2015 never happens.  Never change Salvador.

My point is that Salvy has so much ability. He really has power. But he's OPS'd .692 and .706 the past 2 seasons. Its hard to know what kind of player he'll be offensively not just from season to season, but from night to night.
