Pro tip: we weren't actually that young a team last year

A bunch of old guys who hardly played really messed with that average.

Suppose that is true, but its not like our young guys were super young. Sal was the only everyday player born in the 90's. Hosmer / Moose / Cain / Escobar / Butler / Gordon were all in, or barely either side of their prime years.  Nori and Infante are on the old side.  Pitching was a nice mix of old, young and prime.

Also, can we cool down with the Finnegan is a stud talk? His wildcard performance was a ton of fun, but there's nothing I saw after that, that makes me think he's a shoe in to be a monster in the Majors.

Could he be a sandal or boot in?

he didn't even pitch 9 regular season innings. how on earth can you come to that conclusion? that's like saying a guy is a terrible shooter after going 0-3 or a great shooter after going 3-3. Sample size man.

Finnegan probably won't be a starter in the bigs next year, but to say that he sucks based upon what? One bad appearance last year? That's a pretty rough ridin' strange limb to climb out on.

This is fanning calling the guy a terrible shooter after going 8-9. It's a small sample size, and he's completely ignoring the results on top of that.

five of those earned runs came in one outing, we already established he had a bad outing.

Yeah once game 4 got out of hand, he (and then Collins) were just going to fall on the grenade.

I prefer one year of Butler and 2 of Aoki over what we got.

yeah.  sigh.

I think he's a great porspect and we really needed him on that run. I'm just not ready to crown him as some phenom yet.

so is he a great porspect that we needed, or does he kinda suck? No one is crowning him a phenom, but most Royals fans expect him to be a big part of the pen next year

My sole concern about this team right now is the rotation. I have all the confidence in the world in the pen. We have no #5 right now. I'm sure they'll still try to find someone, but if they don't, they could be in major trouble. Hoch, finny, that dude from Minnesota we just got... they're all tweeners. I'm just hoping one of them isn't the plan for #5.

FYI, almost every #5 starter in the majors is a tweener. Most teams aren't rolling out '98 Pedro

Like I've been saying for 2 weeks, its not opening day, so wait before worrying about it. We just went to the world series so trusting the front office is warranted for once.

why are we signing a bunch of old guys? remember when we started to get kinda good that one year and the front office freaked out and we signed like julio franco and benito santiago and juan samuel and juan franco and then we sucked? pepperidge farms remembers.

These guys aren't old.

Rios is a defensive upgrade in RF.

We just have dumb bbs' ers

Who do you think/want it to be, cf3?

Don't be shocked if Shields is back.
I would really like that. A qualifying offer really limits the teams that will go after a guy that is really good, but not great.

Maybe the Dodgers. They spend money like it's a limitless commodity. And they're doing it again this offseason.

Anyone pining for Aoki over Rios is a Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!).

Morales makes me nervous. Butler made me angry.

In fairness FSD Aoki's OPS was higher than Rios last year, but it was Rios worst year. If he bounces back to even close to career average or a little below, we'll be fine though. Aoki was on a more steep decline than Rios believe it or not.

Don't even get me started on OPS as a statistic.  . .

Rios can play ball, Aoki tennis. 2 minutes of video shows who the better player is.

The Royals have made it very clear that they ultimately project Finn as a starter, so much so that they prefer to start him back in the minors next season to stretch him out to fulfill that role. If offseason moves don't pan out and he comes north with the club next spring, I suspect they'll want four, maybe five, innings (at most) every start until midseason, when they can extend him. Hopefully, we'll pick up a good starter so we can stick to Finn's development plan.

Guys, I'm tempted to get FSD started on OPS. Never met anyone who didn't like it as a stat.
