He'll want 4 minimum, more likely he'll want 5.

i would run away screaming from a 4 or 5 year deal if i were the royals.  hope they aren't stupid.

Agreed. 4-5 is too much. 2 at best.

He'll get better than 60M over 4 years. One of the top pitchers in a thin market.

Who cares if he's a good pitcher, he's by far the most adorable person on this team.

you're probably right.  the royals shouldn't participate in that.

I like Santana and hope he returns. That said, please define "adorable" as that term relates to the Royals. I can then decide whether Santana is, in fact, the most adorable KCR.

If we're actually trying to make the playoffs we should.

This was his best year most likely...all down hill from here, imo. I wouldn't be OK with a 4 yr. deal. Something less i guess.

4 for 60 would be pretty good IMO. He's not that old, and I could see a few more years like this one. With our offense, you need multiple starters with the capabilities of getting a win in a game where we only score 3. Only marginal guys like Chen get 2 or less years.

Also - 10 for Cano is crazy. He's 31.

we can't build for the furture right now. this is probably the very highest we will ever build to anyway. push all the chips into the center for the next couple years and then just suck incredibly hard amounts for another 5 or so years after that and then try to do it again.

If Santana is willing to sign for around $16-17M/year, we need to try. Our window is about one year wide now. If we don't try everything to win next year, Shields walks after the year and Wil Myers rakes for the next twelve.

if myers is great for 12 years he's only with us for a handful of those anyway. let's not pretend the royals are going to suddenly drop huge figures on an outfielder for the first time in their history.

spend that money on offense.  santana is not worth 16-17/year.

I love Magic, but I'm not sure that he's worth $15M next year or over the next 3-5 years if that money could be spent on a bat. Without him, our rotation looks something like Shields-Guthrie-Duffy-Ventura for next year. Sure, it'd be great to have a #2 guy like Santana, but I think the 2013 team already proved that an uber-talented starting rotation is not what you need to make the playoffs.

I'd rather go after guys like Shin-Soo Choo, Hunter Pence, or Nelson Cruz with that money.  :th_twocents:

2. NL Cent .8850
3. AL Cent .8434
4. NL West .8272
5. AL West .8210

pretty great that the NL East and NFC East are the two most putrid divisions in MLB and NFL, respectively

Cleveland? I spent a week there one night
