Latest from the Interwebs: (1) Royals showing interest in our old friend Soria which, if true, means we're willing to give up some present bullpen piece; (2) Mets are interested in Zobrist (NY doesn't seem to be a great fit for Ben and his family); (3) Rosenthal reports that we'll bring Bubba up to the bigs in 2016 and he'll occupy a solid roster spot in 2017.

My take? Soria is seeking $27 million over 3 years, despite two TJ surgeries. We won't pay that. Maybe less, but not that. And Dayton will be reluctant to shed any of the major back of the bullpen pieces to accommodate Soria, who says he'll take a closer or setup role, unless they completely abandon Holland, which the Royals can do. Even then, Soria would have to agree to a deal less than 27/3.

Zobrist is a tossup. He loves KC and the Royals love him. I suspect his choice will come down to family lifestyle, so KC will have an edge over NY.

Bubba? Fascinating. He had a somewhat decent year in the minors this season and is tearing up the AFL. Rosenthal says he'll come up in 2016 and start in 2017. We drafted this guy in 2011 and he's struggled until this season. Let's not consider Bubba as a key piece until he's called up to The Show and displays some real promise against MLB pitching.

I wouldn't be opposed to adding more strong relievers to protect mediocre starters but 9m per is a joke

Saying NYC is not a good fit for Zobrist is dumb. I think he wants the following things: contending team, max years, max money. He's not going to come to KC and avoid NYC for less money because of the FCA building in left field.

Soria can try all he wants, but he won't get that much. I doubt we see Soria here, Dayton won't want to give him more than 2 years

yeah, I have read that the Zobrist family homestead is Nashville and I doubt Mrs. Z will be changing that with the single dropping and what not

I was just thinking, if I were Alex Gordon, I think I'd want to sign with the Cubs.

Reasons:
1. He's already a part of the most beloved team in Royals history, you win with the Cubs, you become a part of the most beloved team there too. Ask a Red Sox fan about anyone on the 2004 team sometime.
2. Get to live in Chicago in the summer, play tons of day games at Wrigley (off of work at like 6:30, perfect)
3. No one expects you to carry the team (Bryant and Rizzo are expected to do that)
4. Get to play for Joe Maddon (complete stud)
5. National League (easier of the two leagues)

If not KC, go to the Cubs Alex

I think his go crazy into walls days are over. He was not the same defender after the Groin, and I doubt he'll be as reckless going forward.

probably not 3/27, but soria will make a ton.  relievers are getting pay raises this year.
