I don't think Rusty wants to manage in the majors. He's 60, and the major league season is very long and stressful. In Dayton's book, he talked about how much Rusty loves teaching the game of baseball, and credits him for teaching Gordon outfield fundamentals. If he were a roving minor league coach, he could go be with certain minor league teams in the organization for a stint to work with young players but not have to have the grind of the entire season. He could take a week off now and again during the summer. I think he wants more life freedom, and to just teach young players how to play.
