Beltran won rookie of the year in KC that year. That was the Damon/Beltran/Dye/Randa/Sweeney era where we put up lots of runs (so did everyone though, steroids). I went back and looked at the stats, and man, what a horrible pitching staff. I know that was the worst pitching era in recent memory, but woof. http://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/KCR/1999.shtml 1 relief pitcher with an ERA under 4! Jeff Montgomery's ERA was almost 7 and he pitched in 49 games. I mean, what a weird team. Baseball is so much better now. I like homeruns, but a lower scoring game means more close games, more value on defense.
