I love mocking the "he's so royal" talking point. he's going to take the most money he can get from the person who offers it to him. if it comes down to us and another team with equal offers he will probably choose us.

I get sys' point that 1 or 2 million is pretty meaningless in MLB but when you get to both dump joe blanton's salary and get some it seems like a no brainer. was joe ever going to pitch for us again?

If we win the Series this year, he's as good as gone.

every single player in the history of the universe at the large/long contract point of their career is. the only thing that may help us is the unknown about the injury. and that's not a home town discount, that's an injury discount.

I think we could get in greinke's head. like, do mean things you wouldn't normally do to an unstable guy and get him rattled. like, start a media campaign that he won't be allowed to hit in the NL park games of the WS. and then when his manager and everyone is like WTF? we just ignore it and keep parading that talking point around and our players have to say it all straight faced leading up to game one like, "it's really weird that they aren't going to allow him to hit"

sorry but this simply is not true. if anything most stars will take pay cuts to allow other players to be signed in the offseason if they know its probably their last shot at winning it all. look at dirk and peyton as examples.

Those guys are in leagues with Salary caps. Baseball players can have both. Huge contracts and stocked teams. Alex really does like Kansas City and the Royals, and I think we'll have every opportunity to sign him. But if you were him, and the Royals offered 4 years 60 million, and then the Red Sox or Angels offer 5 years 85 million, what would you do? Sure you're rich either way, but 25 million is a crap load of money.

i know both of those players i mentioned play in salary cap leagues my point was not everyone is all about the money. nothing more nothing less. and me personally? id stay in kc if it meant keeping the core together.

They probably won't though, they just got Alex Wood and Mat Latos last night. Alex Wood is really freaking good.

I think Price will end up with the Astros. They had Cole Hamels locked up until he vetoed the trade and Price should be a lot cheaper for them.

Zolbrist is only making 3 million this year and we're losing Gordon next year. I know it's not a lot, but we'll need a productive left fielder next year. Zolbrist will probably be worth 8-9 next year, but I feel like the Royals have been doing a better job of investing into this team in the off season. I mean, crap, Rios is making 9 mill this year. I don't know tho, just wishful thinking I guess.
why do you keep saying this as if it's fact?
I wondered that too. Is it a given that he is gone?

No.  Gordon isn't going anywhere.  He has already publicly said he will excercise his option after next year.  The Royals will be able to afford him after that.

Pretty sure he hasn't confirmed he'll exercise his option. He's talked about possibly doing it but it would be big news if he confirmed it.
Alex could be a 13-18 mill guy a year. Yes, I'm assuming we walk away from him, but you have to think about the future as well. Moose and Hosmers contracts are around the corner as well. We won't be able to keep everyone.

This isn't the NFL. This is Gordon's last chance to strike rich (richer) and he'll take the largest amount of cash (longest contract deal) he can take. He's not lining up for commercials every month like those guys either.

OMFG he's got to be the worst athlete at doing commercials that I've ever seen.

I'm guessing Price will go to Dodgers or Blue Jays.

I'm surprised a team hasn't picked up Shields.

Shields has a 4 year deal, so he'll be like Hamels, where a team has to pick up that contract. I bet he'd fit well in pinstripes.

I'm a little bit surprised Hamels didn't end up with the Dodgers. He would have been a cheap option to replace Greinke after this season.

He's from Dallas and it looks like a move for 2016. They'll be loaded next year when Darvish comes back.
