The Royals are 0-7 when Joe Blanton pitches this season :frown:

 :ohno:

he never entered a game where we were ahead or tied
See post above. I find it interesting that we are 61 games and 36 wins into the season and Ned hasn't let this guy throw one pitch of much consequence.

We've had numerous blowouts...let the guy enjoy contributing to a win once in a while. :dunno:

meh. with this dude's past, the fact that he's getting paid to be a professional baseball player is more than enough of a fair shake. in 2014 he was giving up 2 HR per 9 IP and the league batted .317 against him. He really should be paying US to be able to have the luxury of spending time on the best team in the American League.

earn it and he'll get to pitch in more fun moments

He didn't pitch in the MLB last year. Going back to 2013 with the Angels, Blanton's team has lost the last 18 games he's pitched.

If you think Blanton is going more than 4-5 innings tonight, you're kidding yourself. We'll be fine.

i like infante, and i really hope he can return to playing more like his career norms.  but another interesting aspect of colon over infante is that colon is probably better suited to hitting leadoff.  although apparently infante used to draw walks before he joined the royals.  kinda makes a person wonder if the royals swing at ever-y-thing approach is nature or nurture.

Joe Blanton was a trash heap loser and we've let him pitch in games we've already lost. If you don't like him, mocat, I'd suggest you have a conversation with the following people:

1. Danny Duffy: Get your crap together
2. Jason Vargas: Quit getting flexor strained
3. Kris Medlin: Heal faster

NOTE: I don't like Joe Blanton much either for the record

I don't like Blanton either, but his slider is pretty salty.

There are 5 players in the Majors who walk less than Escobar (Infante walks the least)
There are 24 players who get on base less (Infante again least)
16 players with less ISO power
13 players see fewer pitches per PA (Perez & Infante tied for 9th fewest)
Only 4-6 on steals this season

The only worse leadoff hitter you can think of would be Infante.  There are few worse hitters around the league, and none of them bat leadoff.

Yeah, I really don't get the defense of Esky in the leadoff spot. I know we're all having a lot of fun right now, but I still think it's okay to make of fun of our manager for being a gigantic dipshit sometimes. I mean, why would you want one of the worst hitters in all of baseball to get the most ABs for your team?

one interesting thing - although the sample size is very small.  he has hit super good in the actual spot of leading off.  that is to say, the first at bat of the game.  if you could bat him 1st in the 1st inning and then move him to 8th or 9th for the rest of the game, it'd work out great.  or at least it would have for the games he's hit leadoff so far.

Esky's splits with <2 outs vs 2 outs is staggering. His OPS drops from ~.720 down to .424.

Which means that probably won't hold steady the rest of the year. It sure would be nice to have a guy who is on base 30% more often for Cain or Moose to drive in.

That person will never hit leadoff for Ned Yost.

I was actually in the middle of typing out something about trolling the Brewers by leaving Young in to bat, then remove him for a reliever before his next pitch, then Dyson hit his triple.
