Posse stat of the day =
J-Guts the Good and Bad vs Detroit.  Today we got the good. Since last year, he has had 3 good outings and 3 bad outings vs them
3 Good --  19.1 Inn 4 ER.   3 Bad -- 12.2 Inn 20 ER

Guts got our pen rested with 7.1 strong innings. Everyone in the Pen should be available 2mrw unless he decides to avoid using Hoch on back to back days (although he only threw 3 pitches)

If we had our "A" team all year, would we be undefeated at this point? I think yes.

Seems like Guts is either really good or really bad every time he goes out there. That's a lot better than he'd be if he just went out and consistently threw his stat line every time.

Probably so.

Denny was talking the other night about the general rule for good starting pitchers. About 5 starts they are lights out and about 5 starts they are awful. Then there are 20-25 when they are okay and they have to grind out wins/losses. Seems about right.

I think he said that was what one pitcher would say...can't remember the pitcher's name though.  Some HOF'r

I've heard a similar thing about the season. Win 60, lose 60. The other 42 determine the season

This thinking drives me nuts. Its like throwing away 60 games as losses. There aren't 42 games that decide a season. Its all of them.

Yeah I don't like it either. If you lose, say, 72 games in a season, which 12 were the important 12? Its stupid

I think Guts is more Good or Bad than Mediocre/OK.

Past 2 years (2013-2014). He has had....
30 starts GOOD. Going at least 6 Inn. Giving up 2ER or less
28 start BAD where he gave up at least 4 ER or failed to go 5.0 Inn
Only 7 starts where he does something in between

This year... 1 good, 4 bad, 1 OK (5 inn 3 ER)

good stuff, poor control.  on days when his control is good, he's good.  when it's off, he throws it where it's not hard to hit.
