No. He was miserable to watch for 2/3 of the season.
When one person, for whatever reason, has a chance to lead an exceptional life, he has no right to keep it to himself.

but would much rather have Detroit sign Shields than Sherzer.

Scherzer - ~ 210 million with a 50 million dollar signing bonus.   :surprised:

as cheap as aoki turned out to be, they should have kept him.  holy eff to scherzer's contract.

Yeah he was probably worth keeping for 4.

I'm all for paying an aging veteran more than he's worth if it means being awesome now, but my god that 14 year contract is just ridiculous.

Well, it's technically a 7 year contract.  Half the money is deferred for another 7 years after the contract is over.  I still can't get over the 50 million signing bonus.

Yeah, he's only on the team for 7 years, but they are paying him for 14. I guess they are just banking on $15 million being payroll dust 7 years from now, and they are probably correct.

Didn't Bobby Bonilla get a similar deal from the Mets a while back, where most of it was paid later?

Bubba wasting our time in the minor league camp is, well, a waste of time. Time to see if he's a major league baseball player or if we wasted 7 million dollars and a 1st round pick on a loser. He absolutely needs to be at the big league camp.
