UPDATED!

ESPN pitcher game score is pretty arbitrary, but let's use it as a starting point for comparison purposes

game score = 50 + (outs) + (2*IP after the 4th) + (K) - (2*H) - (4*ER) - (2*unearned runs) - (BB)

for reference, the best game score so far this year is 102 (Kershaw's no hitter vs Colorado), but you kind of start at 50 and above or below is considered pretty good or pretty bad

this is each starter's 2014 game log, in chronological order. i've added a space between months to kind of break it up in chunks.

Duffy is amazing.
Shields has decided to rip apart the rest of the season.
Vargas and Ventura have been consistent with slight hiccups which we will chalk up to injury.
Guthrie had 2 awful starts but i mean he is the 5th freaking starter.

KayCee Baseball (the Royals' baseball historian) started in 2012. His hanging of the Ws started this year (at the beginning of the season, it didn't start midseason). I like it.

The Royals have been hangin' Ws at the K for going on 50 years now. Some of you bandwagon losers are really outing yourselves right now.
It hasn't been on stage like this before. Also, most of us were too intoxicated to notice the last 30 years, cause we were absolute dog crap and had to drink through the games.

Things I'm pretty sure are true: 1) We're going to win tonight 2) Jeremy Guthrie is a witch

Those are not "either/or" statements. If we win, it will be because Jeremy Guthrie is actually a witch...or shaman or something.

I'm less worried about Guts vs. the A's than I am about Lester vs. the Royals. Guts probably can't give up more than 3 for us to win, and I want Davis/Holland sitting regardless of situation in the game. No more 3 in a rows for those 2 until October.

Jeremy Guthrie (8-9, 4.35), who is aiming for a career-best four straight winning starts for the third time and first since July 20-Aug, 5, 2013, counters for the Royals.

Royals record when they score 4 or more: 60 times, 52-8 (.867)
Royals record when they score less than 4: 57 times, 12-45 (.211)

opponents record when they score 4 or more: 57 times, 38-19 (.667)
opponents record when they score less than 4: 60 times, 15-45 (.250)

---

the Royals do a much, much (by 20 percent!) better job than their opponents of winning with 4 or more runs
the Royals' opponents do a slightly (less than 4 percent) better job than the Royals of winning with less than 4 runs

more of the stats blast.

i don't know what to make of this, except to say i guess Royals victories are usually higher scoring affairs than their losses (!)

in Royals wins:

Royals average 5.72 runs
opponents average 2.53 runs
average diff = +3.19

in Royals losses:

Royals average 2.06 runs
opponents average 5.42 runs
average diff = -3.36

We are playing with house money tonight. If we win,  :Woohoo:, but if we don't then  :don'tcare:...on to the next one.

The Royals are 13-10 when J Guts starts...Not bad for a 35 y/o 5th starter.

I'll be upset if we lose.  I want this streak to continue so we can get as far ahead as possible.
