worst big 12 town
« on: February 10, 2010, 11:40:00 AM »
nm

Worst Town: Waco (9).

Comment: "One time, a Baylor assistant football coach got arrested for urinating on the bar at Scruffy Murphy's. That was the century's high-water mark for nightlife excitement."

Also receiving votes: Ames, Manhattan

Just realized that no other conference can touch the B12 here.  This info should come in handy sometime.

Don't forget serial cat killers...
Fifteen minutes later, when the Kansas locker room opened its doors to the media, the Jayhawks were still crying. Literally, bawling. All of them. I've never seen anything like it, and I've seen devastated college locker rooms -- after losses in the Final Four, the national championship game -- ever

Oh, oops.

In that case, I change my above post to "Obviously those writers have never been to these towns"

Austin is a great city and is lots of fun.  I have had fun in norman too.  Lawrence is a crap hole, it has it's nice spots but is way to spread out to be considered a good Big XII city.  Mass Street is an awful place to party, that is if you plan on going enjoying more than one bar.

I can only imagine Waco and Lubbock being the worst cities in the Big Twelve, followed closely by Ames.

Having been to all the Big 12 college towns except Lubbock, I would have to go with Waco.
Only positive was the Dr Pepper museum.  :drink:  <----but dr. pepper

Best Basketball Town: Lawrence (10).

Comment: "Lawrence is clearly the class of the Big 12 in hoops, the only one to win an NCAA title since the league was formed. Before KU won as a Big Eight team in 1988, the last titles belonged to Kansas in 1952 and Oklahoma State, twice in the 1940s when, I believe, they were playing three-on-three at each end, no crossing midcourt. As for Allen Fieldhouse, it's like a museum, maybe one that is haunted. I always think a famous dead guy is going reach out and shake my hand."

Also receiving votes: None. Lawrence was the lone unanimous pick in the entire survey.

You should always celebrate and be thankful that the people who don't like Ames . . . don't like Ames; and don't want to go there, and if they do have to go there, they don't want to stay long.   They are generally humorless douchebags who just don't "get it".
