Wow . . . we took heat for firing a guy who was clearly in over his head after 2.5 seasons.   What are they going to get if they can Gill after one??

I believe in a few months Gill's buyout will "only" be $8 million.   But their coordinators likely have 2 year contracts, so canning the whole staff will still likely cost about $10 million.

What's worse, the MOU spelled on a napkin or Lew paying Gill $2 million a year and giving him a 5 year contract with a buyout worth his full salary for every year remaining??   Hell, at least Krause deferred the payments to Prince.

To be honest KSU got very little heat.  It was mostly ksu fans playing the "media hates us" martyr card as we so deftly do.

But KSU did get heat from Dungy (who showed he was clueless) and from some other national media/organization types.

Given TG and assistants' contracts, what kind of coach and staff could KU afford?

A tiny bit from from Dungy (one sentence).  The rest was also single sentence throw away stuff.  Most of it was in ksu fans' minds who were "just sure" we were going to get blasted by the media as racists.  A week after he was gone no one was even talking about it.  We ksu fans have an amazing persecution complex.  HUGE.

Tony Dungy is in charge of the Minnesota hire, and he has made it known that he wants more minority coaches in college football. If I were the AD at KU, I would be get on the phone with Minnesota and try to work out a deal between them and Gill where they would give him a 5 year, $5 million contract, and KU would continue to pay him $1 million per year. This cuts the buyout in half, and Turner still gets paid.

But that doesn't meet Dungy's agenda of adding MORE minority coaches in college football.

Lost my "media hates us" complex several years ago . . . we got "mentions" from some for firing a guy after 2.5 years who was clearly not going to work out (sadly we went back to the familiar and easy) . . . ku would get grilled IMO if they can Gill after only 1 year.   There's going to be all kinds of discussion about how the guy never even got a chance to coach his recruits.   But in the end, it really won't matter.

Mark May also said we never gave him a chance and that it was because he was a back head coach in about a 3 minute rant.  In that instance the media really did hate us.

Mark May really hated us. He loves KU so much tho that he said in '09 they have an outside chance at a NC, which was LOL. Now if Gill hets axed in 1 or even 2 years I'd expect his boner for KU to go limp

Take a look at Turner Gill at Buffalo. He's in his third season in the Mid-American Conference. His career record is 11-21 but his reputation is impeccable. He was the MAC coach of the year in 2007 after guiding the Bulls to a 5-7 record. Buffalo is 4-4 this year and has a shot at representing the East in the MAC title game.

Gill is taking the proper path to coaching greatness. He is likely to get a BCS job in the next two to three years. When he gets it, he'll be ready.

Rumor has it that ku fans have already selected the tree that they're going to hang Gill from....if I were Gill, I'd consider letting my attorneys pick up that $8 million check and forward it on to me in Lincoln, or wherever I was going.

  No, you haven't lost your complex if you thought Dungy was being critical.

Quote from: Tony Dungy
"Raheem Morris was a defensive coordinator for Kansas State.  He left there to be a position coach in the NFL feeling like he had a better chance for advancement."

How is that even critical of KSU, since we already had a minority HC at the time?  Answer: it's not.  He was criticizing other universities and the general college football atmosphere by saying Morris had to go to the NFL.

Raheem saw RP's shitty coaching as detrimental to him being viewed as a quality coordinator, thus harming his ability to get another job, so he got the eff out while he could.

Nothing to do with Race, KSU, or the NCAA institutions view of race as it relates to coaching advancement.

I'm sure Ron's meglomania didn't help either.  Hard to imagine that sorry SOB wouldn't even let a future NFL HC to speak to the media.  What a jackass.

There were numerous snide comments made about KSU about the firing of Prince.  Nothing earth-shattering but more than I was comfortable with.  We have obviously not recruited well for awhile now, so any bad pub out there was a serious negative for us.  The last thing we needed is well respected members of the black community portraying us in a negative light.  Hell, it's hard enough to get kids to play here without the media acting like our administration is racist.
