What exactly is a "bend but don't break" scheme?  It seems like it means "suck but then stop sucking when the opposing team gets to the red zone".

In technical terms, what are we talking about here?

Don't take a lot of chances.  Safe stunts and blitzes, keep routes in front.

Last night in our scheme we allowed NU to isolate Martinez in many one on one situations and he beat us.  Some of this b/c he is simply a better player, some b/c we took terrible angles and run fits.  Some of this b/c we took some more chances and we tried some different alignments that we thought would work to contain Martinez.  It didn't and in fact I think it made things worse b/c our guys weren't comfortable with some of the things we ask to do.  Specifically they took advantage of Lamur's over agressiveness.  We had several sets where his assignment was to spy Martinez and he often ran himself out of the play, outside of Martinez's running lane, easily getting blocks.  Harman's fits are the opposite problem, he often gets too far inside the ball, allowing himself to be caved down and opening up a running lane outside of his run fit.  Our LBs have similar problems to both of these.

Really, the amount of unsound play was surprising on defense.  This is not something we have shown this bad since Snyder has been back.  I'm hopeful that the fixable issues can and will be fixed. And I'm thankful that KU has no one that will present the same problems that NU did.
I really hope so, but Bill hasn't won a road conference game in a loooong time.  And I think Webb will give us problems.

With the problems we have, we're probably worse off if KU plays Pick.

I hope people understand I'm not trying to say we are great and last night was an aberation, b/c we are not.  But most/many college football teams have  lots of problems and we will win more games.  We aren't playing a ton of teams on our schedule much better than UCLA/ISU/UCF.  We'll win some of those games to teams like that, and we'll lose some of those as well.  At least 2, probably 3 of our remaining opponents are worse than those teams as well.  There is hope even with as bad as last night was, that's all I'm saying.

And if that's :powerespect: I don't really care.

Hartman's angle to T-Magic on his breakaway to the south endzone was hilariously bad.

Hartman wouldn't know an angle if one hit him in the head.  His nickname should be Circle.

Cheesy Mustache QB might make an appearance.

This is true.  Unfortunately often times Lamur's weren't much better.

Looked like Lamur wasn't even trying on the passing TD. He slowed up at about the 35 when he had an angle on the receiver.

I found that enjoyable. It's the little things in a game like that which keep me coming back for more.

The staff should punish him by demoting him to starting QB.   :goodbyecruelworld:

Oh, I have no allusions of grandeur ... but that doesn't negate the many head-scratching and ass-aching moments from last night, and it's nice to have a voice of reason to keep things in perspective.

I hope you're right, _FAN.

However, my concern is that we may have already won our close games with UCLA and UCF and Iowa State, and now the pendulum swing to the other side especially with teams with athletes on offense getting a blueprint for how to exploit our undersized, slow defense. I hope I'm wrong.

The thing is, no coach needed last night to have a blueprint for how to exploit our undersized, slow defense.   We didn't learn anything new about our team last night.  Our weaknesses are glaring.

I did learn a hell of a lot about Nebraska, they're a top 5 National Championship type squad.  I had no idea how complete that team is until I saw them play last night.

i think you missed the point.  we all have known we're one dimensional , that CCQ can't throw downfield, and that we can't stop the run.  what's new today?

I guess what's new to me is that our defense would be THAT bad.  I didn't think our defense would be worse than last years to this degree.

I think we have a pretty good chance at actually being a good football team next year.  The recruiting is getting better, although it had nowhere to go but up.  If we could get a couple of Juco Safeties and LB's I think our defense could be almost serviceable and assuming Tuggle or Pease are decent our offense should be good.

This is similar to KU fans who said 0-12 after KU got beat by NDSU.  It's one game, folks.
