We will def have to do this dif than last year.  That said I don't think we are a worse team than last year.

What is the formula for success with only one good guard?  I guess you could have one big man get a rebound and then throw the ball 90 feet to another big man who is posting up.

Our offensive options will have to be shifted from Denis/Jake first to working an inside out game with Curt/Jam/Wally/Freddy as our primary options and  Jake/McGrudes as our shooters.  We def need another G that can push in transition and break presses.  That has been my concern this off season.  I don't think it is unreasonable to feel like a couple soph's and possibly sprad/Myles could help fill the transition/break responsibilities with Jake.  Jake needs to be ready to play 35+ minutes every night.

We will need to run a little more of an organized offense.  Not a Sadler type, but the type that doesn't instantly break down into crap when things do slow down.  This was a problem we had last year.

We have a chance to dominate down low this year, equivalent to how our G's dominated last season.

My main concern will be what happens when Jake has an off night.

think of it this way. does sprads show up at ku or duke and start? because that's what is being suggested with this good enough for top 5 nonsense.

for those of you new to basketball, prepare yourselves to discover that only having one good guard is the equivalent of only having a good quarterback or a good running back, but not both. it will only take you so far.

this.  christ, like sprads is good enough to make us better.

All I am concerned with is whether he is better than Irving.....and the word is that he is.   Improvement is still improvement, no?

Keep the football stuff on the football board and carson says they're 4-0... :powerespect:
I believe ksu doesn't need spradling, myles, russell, or irving to be stars. Just play solid defense
Don't turn it over and hit the open 3. They already have 6 or 7 other guys that will make them a top 5 team.
Really excited to hear about spradling, really think he is a great frank martin guard.

you spent too much time listening to powertards/other big 12 fans and not enough time watching the team.  kstate ran a very "organized" offense.  tons of plays.  tons.  wish we played more of a baylor style read&react, but we maybe don't have the offensive talent to do that.

Not based on any powerespect input.  The only one over there with respectable input on BB is BP, imo.

My problem with our O is that when our primary play breaks down, there was quite a bit of standing around and waiting for Denis to do something.  Guards stood still.  Bigs stood still.  That was fine last year when we had a guard that could do something in that circumstances.  This year will be different.  We need to be able to run into a secondary set in this instance.  This is why we lost to OSU, imo.

Just seemed like, once our plan of action broke down, we didn't know how to handle it.   That will need to change this year.  Maybe it is just me.

i didn't see that.  irregardless, what you are describing you wish kstate would run is a less organized offense, not a more organized offense.

Plan B being understood and ready for when/if Plan A fails = more organization than not having a plan B.

this isn't fball, they don't huddle.  i don't think you're going to see any team calling two plays at the same time.  if they call a play, and it doesn't accomplish anything, you either have them reset and call another play (which is what kstate mostly did last year, time permitting), go into a read&react set (what you seem to be advocating), or space out & let someone make a play.

alternatives going from most organized to least.

When you get the ball the two players closest to you set screen for the two furthest away.  Christ people, I've known about this since little dribblers.

When I was in Little Dribblers, we had a set that we always fell back into if something fell apart, or ran its course without success.  We changed our fall back set for each game based on how our opponents were scouted(we took little dribblers seriously).  I may be over simplifying for NCAA ball.

Similarities?

in terms of a very good team with only one really good guard, that's a fantastic comparo.  or at least, we have to hope that it'll end up being a good comparo.

Yeah I like that comparison. Only big difference is that their really good returning guard was one of the best penetrating/creating and distributing point guards in the nation with a ton of experience. That's pretty comforting come tourney time.

If Myles isn't actually pretty good and either starts or plays quite a bit I'm going to be very confused about why he got a rough ridin' scholarship. Sounds like he's a mature player who's pretty strong with the ball. Wouldn't need much else to get a lot of minutes or even start. Irving is a role player, and Spradling is a true frosh mid-level recruit on the 5th ranked team in america. Anyway, it will be PG by committee so it doesn't really matter who starts. Teams are gonna full court press the crap out of us when we have our big lineup in there.

hey guys, I just read this thread and I get the sense from reading everything here that you guys are all ready for basketball.  this makes me happy -- i'm pretty excited right now for hoops.

come Friday morning, after our football team gets drilled by 70 by nebraska, there will be a lot of "new" hoops fans on this board.  please treat them all like crap and don't let them forget that they are the lowest scum on earth, they are "combo fans"

Cheesy Mustache QB might make an appearance.

New warning: Don't get in a fight with someone who doesn't even need to bother to buy ink.
