hey dlew i've totally given up on shiraz lately. i just can't find any high quality ones here in manhattan.

yeah i know what you mean emawblast. cab savs and merlots are so 2008 though and i don't think i've even sipped once since sophomore year when i was still living in house. just gross. now that i'm in grad school i've really been getting into a lot of the central oregon pinot blends.

thanks. i'll be sure to look into that the next time i'm in a major city like chicago or new york. last night i was sipping on some cheap malbec while re-reading leaves of grass for the fourth time. man that whitman guy just nailed it, huh? life and stuff. i mean nature. wow.

yeah. so true bro. you know it.

Man, these last few days dlew has really gotten into it with both steve dave and rick daris.  Is dlew having a rough time at the start of the second semester?  Maybe it is just a mod PIing conspiracy?  I dunno, but stay tuned folks, this is definitely a developing story you'll want to pay attention to.

I think Dlew is blowing off some steam. Probably really embarrassed for trying to attack Angel and defend Will on twitter during the WVU game last week.

tell me more about the jerk chicken rd

it was pretty hilarious really. kind of long but here goes...

i actively seek out jamaican restaurants whenever i travel. have prob eaten at around twenty or so different ones in the us. was at a small dirty hole in the wall bar place in ft lauderdale with buddy five years ago and they had small little paper menus for a jamaican restaurant. we asked the bartender what the deal was and if it was close by. she said "you know what? you can probably just call that number and he'll bring you some". it was around midnight and we were hungry so we called. two minutes later a guy shows up and is all "hey it's me. what do you guys want?" kind of stunned at the quickness he got there we said  "a bunch of jerk chicken and some rice and peas". he's good with that and leaves. we're like ok well let's see what happens... less than five minutes later the guys shows back up with a cup or two or rice and peas, some bread and a bunch of jerked chik wrapped in foil. we ask how much and pay. open it up and then eat. we're like omg this is the best we've both ever had. how in the world did he get here and then get back so quickly. we then walk about a block and see a car with a bunch of stickers for the restaurant duck taped on the side of the car and our guy along with some other guys playing soccer in the street. couple of coolers in the back of the car when we walk by.

the next day we look and see that the restaurant itself was five miles away. he had to have just had all the food in the coolers. had to. tried to go to the actual restaurant address on the menu a couple of days later and called ahead to see if it was open. the guy said yeah but was weird about it and there was a bunch of noise in the background. drove to the address and it was just a house with some bars on the windows in a not so great neighborhood. got out and knocked on the door within a door and could hear noise inside but nobody came to the door. eventually left and have never had that guys jerk chik since. will haunt me forever. the end.

that is a great story. the restaurant has to be a front for something, but if they make bomb ass jerk chicken and what not they should just open a food truck for it.

I know the guy's name.  I emailed him and he replied back with his name and times he is available.

What I'm saying is that if you were to post the name of the guy emailing you, the board collectively may know which bar he works at/owns and may be able to help you figure out where you are interviewing.

I'd rather be pleasantly surprised or unpleasantly disappointed at the interview, gives me something to look forward to

it's good. I mean for Manhattan Kansas, ya know?

haha daris i didn't mean for manhattan specifically, i meant because it's in the middle of the rough ridin' country and i was talking about seafood. it's perfectly appropriate to say that certain seafood is good for this region of the country, because you can't really expect it to be the best, fresh stuff.

the little grill/jerk chicken is entirely different because the concept of fresh and available doesn't apply nearly as much to chicken as it does to seafood, particularly of the salt water variety, because chicken is available everywhere. not just exclusive to the seas.
