This isn't a kitchen you retards, it's a basement.  It's going to be carpeted.  I live in Nebraska for eff sakes.  The floor will be -40 in the winter.

sounds exactly like what a canadian would say.   :blank:
"a garden city man wondered in april if the theologians had not made a mistake in locating the garden of eden in asia rather than in the arkansas river valley."

About the only way you can put wood over a concrete slab is if you install a radient heating surface between the 2.  Which would also solve the eskimo floor issues, but it would also add a butttload to the price.  Carpet is def. SD's best option here.

can go wrong with carpet.

This has me confused a bit

i don't like carpet (on floors).  put in a different floor.

where do you prefer your carpet?  on ceilings or walls?

I vote for the radiant heat.    When I come up to do a frank murphy 'pak and get drunk/eat ice cream at SD's basement/bar, I'm gonna go ahead and need the heat coming up from the floor.  I'd vote that you should really spare no cost on this SD.

I didn't actually know I had another option other than carpet.  Is wood an option in a basement?  Doesn't seem like it should be.  We will have tile over about 1/4 of it but it seems very uncomfortable for the rest.  I'm barefoot 100% of the time i'm in my house.  Dunno, definately open to suggestions.

Don't listen to them. Carpet is your best bet. Yes, a radiant floor would be great, but so would saving $8K and having a floor you can actually play with your future kids on.

Tip since this basement sounds destined to SD jr's hangout, make a spot for a "kids" TV that is separate from the main tv.  The fab SoJoCo McMansion I recently bought has a finished basement that is roughly L shaped.  One leg of the L has a spot for a 32 inch tube about 18 inches off the floor that is perfect for the kids to watch cartoons on a Saturday morning while the other leg of the L has 65 inch Mits that I can watch Gameday on.

Since we don't have an artist rendering of the basement like we did in Kougs thread, I don't know if this specific layout works for you but keep the concept in mind.

I don't have kids and I'm not sure I ever will have them.  This is definitely not being done for kids.

Have them make the pillar bigger.  Seems kind of puny for that size of room.

have them install three other pillars to form a square of pillars then play nerf ball in the basement and use the pillars for bases.

Puny pillar?  That's gotta be a big blow to the ego.  Better go buy a big truck and hang some rubber cow nuts off the back to conteract the pillar issue.

check out bamboo or cork.  bamboo feels like wood, but doesnt swell/shrink with water.  Cork tile is awesome.  somewhat soft, can finish im a lot of colors, works well with water exposure if sealed, and can be refinished.  both are pretty awesome and woild work well in a basement.

This isn't a kitchen you retards, it's a basement.  It's going to be carpeted.  I live in Nebraska for eff sakes.  The floor will be -40 in the winter.

If a pipe breaks, or your sump pump goes out, you'll regret the carpet.

Vs what other options? Tile? Tile basement would suck.

All BS aside, SD needs carpet tile.  water damage happens, simply pull up the damaged tiles and replace them while the others stay as is.

Our house was built in 2005 so the pipes should be in good shape and I've never heard the sump pump run (though one time I poured a pitcher of water in it to make sure it works).  Not really worried about the water issue.

"Don't have anything nice in your house, cause some freak accident may happen and ruin it all!"   JFC, do you think that they don't have insurance in Nebraska?  It's not like he lives in Iowa...

The bard is going to look like this but with lighter cabinets and without the front bar (because those make no sense to me whatsoever outside of an actual bar with a bartender).  Same tile and it will wrap around the front to the bathroom.  So, Tile and Carpet combo (this was done SOLEY to appease sys).

that's the exact same tile that is in my kitchen/dining area. let me know if you have any questions about it or anything.

That's very pretty.  Although I don't like how the tile on the wall behind the counter wraps around on the side walls.  It looks weird because it extends beyond the cabinets.  Don't do it like that ok.  Granite countertops?
