Aye, I believe Pearl was Tim's 1st choice had the Weefer not stepped in after the 2005 NIT snub.  Pearl was still at UW-Mil at that time.

Tennessee is one of the 3 schools Kent Sterling said were under investigation for the recruitment of Selby. :surprised:

Has nothing to do with this.

This involves lying to NCAA investigators regarding call numbers, entertaining recruits at Pearls house on unofficials among other serious issues.

Its going to get worse for UT before it gets better.

So do you, in your expert opinion, believe this will hurt them in the long run?

Selby was one of the recruits that Pearl entertained at his house, if you would have read the article that was posted.

Iowa State would fire his ass for photos like those. I guess that's why Tennessee will stay relevant in athletics while Iowa State will continue to find MVC coaches.

Tennessee cannot terminate coach oscar Pearl for cause without paying him until there is an NCAA "finding" and, even then, it has to be determined Pearl knowingly engaged in conduct that was a "significant" NCAA violation.

A review of Pearl's contract by an attorney familiar with these types of cases showed the specific termination clauses that protect Pearl despite his admission he misled NCAA investigators while they were pursuing allegations of recruiting violations. The contract examined had the salary amended in 2009 to increase Pearl's salary to $1.9 million a year and extended a year through the 2014-15 season.

Why would TN want to fire Pearl?

Agreed.

He took it to KU with half his team on the bench and a couple guys that walked on something like 6 days before the game.

TN should be excited that they have a coach that can do what Pearl does while walking such a fine line of adorable and creepy.

oscar is a hero.

http://gary-parrish.blogs.cbssports.com/mcc/blogs/entry/6271764/25927735

The SEC is expected to soon announce that Tennessee coach oscar Pearl will be suspended for this season's first eight league games as punishment for admitted NCAA rules violations, multiple sources with knowledge of the situation told CBSSports.com on Friday.

An attempt to reach Pearl for comment wasn't immediately successful.

Pearl's future has been uncertain since athletic director Mike Hamilton held a press conference in September to tell reporters that the school's men's basketball program is being investigated by the NCAA. Pearl has since confirmed a CBSSports.com report that detailed how he illegally hosted recruits at his house in 2008 and subsequently misled investigators about it. His contract has been voided, but he's expected to sign a new agreement with Tennessee in the coming months, if not weeks. The school will likely get a notice of allegations from the NCAA sometime in 2011

Weird thing about that suspension-  TN plays UConn on January 20, in the middle of the investigation.  Pearl will be allowed to coach that game as his suspension only covers conference games.

Well, the suspension was handed down by the SEC, not the NCAA, so this makes sense.
