So I fired a guy today
« on: August 20, 2010, 04:30:45 PM »
I feel kind of bad because he was a good kid but just could not do the job at the pace I expected from him.  He worked here for 2 years, I feel I gave him all the chance in the world to improve, but it still broke my heart seeing the look on his face.  He looked kind of like a puppy after you scold them really mean like.  Anyway, has anyone else had to fire someone and felt bad about it for awhile.  I mean I'll get over it by 4:35 pm today but still kinda sad.

Didn't you have a thread, or a number of posts in a thread, about hiring this guy?

Different guy.  I have like 26 employees and only have one left that I really want to fire.  Can't wait till I have a fat enough file on him!

You fired a guy in this economy?  Wouldn't be shocked if he goes into a deep depression and off's himself.

Hope you sleep well tonight bro..
Fifteen minutes later, when the Kansas locker room opened its doors to the media, the Jayhawks were still crying. Literally, bawling. All of them. I've never seen anything like it, and I've seen devastated college locker rooms -- after losses in the Final Four, the national championship game -- ever

I've never fired anyone, but had someone fired upon my recommendation.   Not sure I could get it out of my mouth if I had to do it face to face with someone.

You obviously have not seen office space.  If you have seen it, then you should watch it again, and take notes.

Yeah.  That dude is most definitely going to (at the very least) make an attempt on JThutch's life.  And I, for one, hope he succeeds.  Dude is kinda cramping my style.

The worst part is that is dad works here too, and his dad is the union president.  Like I said he's a good kid but just could not do what I need him to do.  Too many accidents and property damage to keep him around.

JFC, his dad is going to prop the door open for him and he is going to take you down in a hail of lead.  Make good with your god bro.

Shootings usually happen mid afternoon.  Shooters need a few hours to cry, a few hours to drink, lunch, a few hours to work out a plan/buy ammo, and time to commute drunk before they shoot a joint up.

Watch your ass around 2pm or 3pm.

I have to fire a guy, too. Same reason. So many chances, but he's just  a fuckup and consistently violates the divine Rick Daris rule of management:

i have to manage two people at my current job. i tell them that our only real goal is to fly under the radar and not be noticed. keep to ourselves, help each other out and get along decently well with the other people in our area. pretty sure that i am an absolutely horrible manager but these things are such a challenge for most people in my area/group (40 employees) that i feel the reason to stress the above and then any actual work that i get from them on top of that is just icing. again, pretty sure i'm really bad at managing ... I'd rather have them sitting in a closet playing pick up sticks than working hard and getting into stupid crap.
"How will I recruit to Manhattan? Well, distance. And the proud state of basketball. It start there, and then daily flights to Dallas, because I'm really good at going out. Like top five good. Ask my wife. She wants me to be happy."
