Isn't the fastest back in the league X2?  Gotcha.  And you should definitely care about other RBs.  The game is actually played by more than just one guy, you know.

Tap-out excepted, KCChiefDav.  Seriously, it's hard to even type KCChief with a straight face.

I picked the screenname when my parents got AOL when i was in like 5th grade (a hundred years ago). I only use it now because I can type it one handed...with my less dominant hand.

Sweet, I was thinking that Brod wasn't fast enough.  Good to know he has that type of speed.

Oh- A report in the practice updates thread had D Rob as the fastest player, running a 4.38.

True or false...OB used his 1930s pocket watch to record that time?

True, and he forgot to wind it so the 4.38 is probably closer to 4.78

I must have missed the point when Snyder changed from HOF coach to complete Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!).

40 times are just as much about reaction time as they are speed.   Just because a guy has a slower 40 time doesn't mean he doesn't have a 5th gear that blows past everyone.   :users:

Reaction times are extremely important in football.  And 40 times are important enough for the NFL to make multi-million dollar decisions based on them, so I tend to also put stock in them.

Since OBallz is, well, old, his reaction time would make a 4.38 be closer to an actual 3.98.

That's not true. They make those decisions based on a massive amount of data some measurable and some not. The 40 time is in the notebook but it's not the whole notebook.

40 times are the opposite of being about reaction. Unless you are talking  about the reaction of the timer. I guess K-state might do it differently than everyone else, but usually the timer starts when the player starts moving.

EDIT: But just so we are clear, I think 40 times are stupid anyway. Not a very accurate measurement of speed.

uh yeah... point out where I said a fast 40 time was worthless.  I was more making the statement that a slower 40 time doesn't always mean dick when you're talking about who the fastest person is.   specifically that a 4.38 and a 4.6 might not make a shits bit of difference when a guy with a hair second slower reaction time can catch a kick return, have vision and outrun everyone.

Everything else equal, the skill position player with the faster 40 time will get drafted higher.  It's like the bench press for the big guys.  You tank those at the combine and your stock plummets. Why do you think so much is made of the combines?  NFL scouts love measurables, amd for RBs, DBs, and WRs, the 40 time is the king of measurables.

See '04 & '05...  the two years when our team finally underachieved, causing everybody that's NOT a GPC member to turn on Coach.
