without the avatars I am lost.  When someone changes their avatars, they become new and strange. When people at work get haircuts or hipster spectacles I avoid them for a week or two.

also i usually view the site on my phone and when i zoom in to read, it cuts off the left side anyway, so mostly just never see any names or avatars.  if a post is especially witty, i will look at the name and admire them.
