LAWRENCE — Kansas freshman guard Josh Selby, the prize of KU's 2010 recruiting class, has not been cleared to play by the NCAA due to questions about his amateur status, according to CBSSports.com.
KU coach Bill Self could not be reached for comment Thursday afternoon. The report says that the NCAA is looking into the relationship between Selby, a Baltimore native who finished his prep career as the No. 1 overall player in the country according to Rivals.com, and Robert Frazier, who is the business manager for NBA star and fellow Baltimore native Carmelo Anthony.
An article that appeared in The New York Times in April detailed how Frazier, who also goes by "Bay," served as an adviser to Selby during his college recruitment. The use of recruiting advisers is becoming more prevalent, especially among athletes of Selby's caliber. According to The Times, the key issue for NCAA investigators is whether or not a contract was reached between the player's family and the adviser.
