sounds like you happy with good cheap blends so why worry about the fashion for varietals?  regardless, it's quite a conundrum isn't it?

'cause i'd like more selection in my under $6 category.  agree on conundrumosity of it all.

I am in the same boat as the other beer snobs, my mental database is full of beer data and I cannot remember anything about wines.  I actually tried to find some good wines I liked a couple of times but the next time I am in the liquor store I have forgotten everything and I am starting all over.

i'm related to a guy that does hospitality type stuff for a pretty big winery on the west coast. their wines have been on top chef a couple of times. he gets their stuff for like half off. i currently have a case in my basement. you can buy a couple of their wines at a few places in mhk for @25/bottle. i got it shipped for @7. wish i liked wine more. dunno.

umm.....I will begin calling in favors now that we're on the same page and besties.  Check pm.

Currently drinking:

The Show 2010 Malbec (Argentina)

Is good I guess.  On second glass, the nose is good, not overly spicy for how Malbecs seem to be going these days.  Starting to get a very little misty fog in my brain.  It isn't dealing with my runny nose/sinuses like I wanted, but it is also more smooth and calming.  Not vineagary or harsh at all.  Maybe my senses are just dull right now.

Either way, good experience so far.  It paired well with my dinner of leftover steamed rice and lamb as well as "Moves Like Jagger"

BotaBox.

wife has been drinking the Riesling for a while and likes it a lot.

Decided to try the cab.  V surprisingly good.

Supposedly in a box as a tree hugger thing.

Cab is comparable to Mondavi.

Start w/ the wine.  The rest sounds like actual sacrifice and/or work.

I've found myself enjoying wine drunk far more than beer drunk.

Tried the Louis jadot Beaujolais Villages 2011 tonight, mostly because I knew the gf would probably enjoy gamay. Enjoyed it. Would buy again, especially at $10 a bottle.

Beaujolais Nouveau is the one that is for immediate consumption. Comes out like 3rd week of November every year. Beaujolais Villages can be drank within a year or two.

Unless you have a pretty refined palate or want to look fancy, there's nothing wrong with Yellowtail. If you ask the store, there are others options in that price range that are a bit better though.
