Hitchens needs to go but he doesn't save that much money. It's similar to Sammy's situation last year. Fisher and Schwartz are really the only ways to save money. I would love to keep a healthy Schwartz but that doesn't appear to be an option. Clark could restructure but moving on from him is nearly impossible until next year.

Man, I thought we would be getting a 2nd or 3rd out of Fisher before he was injured.

There could be an opp to restructure Schwartz if he can still play. Sounds like his significant other's family just relocated to KC. Her mother passed away a few months back.

I'd be pretty shocked if Schwartz plays again. Typically the only way those big guys get over back problems is by losing weight and they can't do their job after losing weight.

Yes he was and that is not a good thing. Gay was starting to come along before the injury and I think will be a big part of the future at that position. Damien Wilson is pretty serviceable too, but Sorenson played the LB position pretty often and that is just not ok. We either need to draft a top LB or try to sign one. Hitchens is not worth his money, and it's not even close.

While I don't disagree with you about our best, he's expensive at a non-premium position. With just his contract, we're in the top half of the league in ILB spending. I think it's a position that could be upgraded in the draft or by trading a mid round pick, but his cap number doesn't allow us to move on from him. If our LBs are going to kinda suck, we should treat them like our corners and not overpay for it.

His contract wasn't renewed. It's splitting hairs a bit but the Chiefs just didn't rehire/extend him amidst this instead of making a decision to fire him.

I know you don’t live in KC anymore, but many dipshits try to blame Reid for not being a caring father and for putting football over family (because one of his son’s OD’d). Kietzman got fired over this by acknowledging keeping troubled past players on the roster over taking care of his own kids (in their late 20’s and able to make their own decisions). It might be nepotism, but he’s also crucified for being a “bad father” for caring about his work most. Dude can’t get a break.
