it's embarrassing that people are protesting the building of a mosque in lower manhattan, near ground zero.

I understand why people are upset but that doesn't change that it really flies in the face of what our country stands for to ban one religion from building a place of worship in a certain location.  Freedom often makes things complicated like tolerating the phelps crew protesting soldiers funerals and the like, but it seems like a violation of freedom of speech to disallow a group from building a place of worship if they own the land and it is properly zoned.

because in dirty sanchez's world, all dark skinned people and their beliefs = against "freedom."  (and fox news tells him to be angry!)

What's hilarious about this is there are synagogues in Iran:

Clams, I agree.  It's embarrassing and disgusting that people hate the constitution.

I agree with DS, Saudi Arabia is truly the model country that America should be striving for.

Yes, we should start by making it illegal to build a mosque in the U.S. We can take care of the Jews and Catholics later. Then we can work on getting women back in the kitchen, where they belong.

Blocking stuff like this happens all the time.  I'll give you a hypothetical, then a real-world example.

Say someone bombed a gay nightclub.  Then fred phelps decided he wanted to rent a building across the street.  Would the left (and the right for that matter) not go apeshit over that one?  Would it not be seen as overly provocative?

Now for the real world.  A couple of months back a guy in one of the small towns in missouri just east of KC wanted to open up a youth activity club.  He wanted to call it "black flag."  Nothing wrong with that, right?  Well, it turns out that this guy is a former member of a white supremacist group and the "black flag" was the color of flag william quantrill rode under.  The zoning permit was first approved, but then the people of the town--mostly white--raised hell with the zoning board and it was reversed.  It was considered overly provocative among other things.

But the left will just continue to excuse radical islam.  Right down to the day when a sword hits their neck, I'm sure.

Don't really care what the left would do, but I think Phelps should be able to rent whatever building he wants, according to the laws.  It really wouldn't be any worse than anything he already does.

Why wouldn't the right be outraged?

Um, the building wasn't up to fire code:

Quote
Odessa officials reportedly found Juba failed to properly fill out his business application and that his license has been rescinded, and the club itself still isn't up to fire code.
