New Sturgill is old Sturgill as bluegrass and it it’s great. Did a show of basically the same stuff at the Opry this summer
I can’t stop listening to this, it is so good.

Cheesy Mustache QB might make an appearance.

New warning: Don't get in a fight with someone who doesn't even need to bother to buy ink.

I love this, he highlighted why I really enjoy pop country and the music is very good

Quote
I've loved pop-country for so long, which often surprises friends. I cry more often to radio manicured bro-ballads & truck songs than I ever have to their dewy-eyed indie equivalent. I’m closer to understanding why since spending time in some of the 9 covers that comprise most of Hot & Heavy-Handed. Once you strip back the big production & aggro delivery, you find there's pathos & sensitivity there--one of pop-country's best (or worst) tricks: coating very vulnerable songs (about divorce, heartache, watching your kids grow) in a kind of big-dick bluster that gives folks who’d never listen to Coldplay license to, essentially, listen to Coldplay & FEEL. Unfortunately, it's this over-compensation that repels many who otherwise value songwriting. The urge to rescue some favorites from their own heavy-handed production inspired this album, though I couldn't help but throw in some tunes whose produ ction & delivery I revere (Roger Miller, Tom T. Hall, Lucinda Williams) + 2 originals.

On this tangent, always thought this was a cool song about Ellsworth even though I wasn't a fan of Rascal Flatts

My dad grew up in Ellsworth. I didn’t know this song existed.

Did you know that John Denver sung a song about a farm boy growing up just south of colby KS? Neither did I until my dad told me it was his favorite song. Lots of Kansas/Wheat/Blue sky references.
