Where should I stay on the strip? Want relatively inexpensive, easy access to everything, first time in Vegas
You can find the nice places pretty damn cheap depending on your timing. A lot of times it's just a matter of $20 a night to go from Harrahs to Caesars which is definately worth it imo. We stay at Caesars most the time because it is central and nice and you can usually find a good deal. The new City Center is also fairly centralized and brand new. Aria and Vdara are their hotels that are open right now. They are just opening and are pricing really aggressively because MGM is Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!) and are cannabalizing themselves. Only one of them has a casino but they are all connected. Start checking here from time to time until a good code comes up for where you want to stay:

Rick Daris found us an excellent code for Caesars at VegasPAK.
Thx for the info. Any specific hotels on the strip you'd avoid?
I wouldn't stay at any of the super cheap ones. Like, don't stay at Imperial Palace even though you can probably get a $30 room. I will list where I would or wouldn't stay:
Would always if I can get a decent rate ($150 or less a night, ordered by niceness):Wynn (Not centralized)
Encore (attached to and same as Wynn but newer)
Bellagio (Very central)
Palazzo (attached to and same as Venetian but newer)
Venetian (Palazzo and Venetian are next to the Wynn and are pretty far Noth Strip)
Aria (City Center, brand new, good central location)
Vdarra (same)
Caesars (kind of borderline not nice enough to be included with these others, very central, our go to)
If you get a ridic good rate ($75 a night, ordered by niceness) I would stay here:Mirage (pretty centralized, next to caesars)
Signature (nicer attched MGM property, kind of sout end of strip but not extreme)
Mandalay Bay (Far south end of strip, has a monorail that sometimes is running to get you as far north as excalibur, ridic. pool complex)
MGM (humongous, get tired walking through here, they have lions, great food for not being uber-elite)
NYNY (meh)
Luxor (not very nice at all and far south but you can find ridic $40ish rates sometimes, shares monorail with Mandalay)
Paris (do not like but have stayed here, centralized)
Don't stay (lots of these shouldn't even be considered on the strip they are so far away and lots are just disgusting and smelly):Ballys (no way)
Bills (have stayed here, kind of interesting to try, centrally located, weird)
Casino Royale (wut?)
Circus Circus (far away, disgusting, weird)
Excalibur (though chicat likes it for some reason)
Flamingo (not terrible and has a nice pool but)
Harrahs (meh)
Hooters (not even really on the strip)
Imperial Palace (centrally located and extra filthy)
Hilton (not even on the strip)
Monte Carlo (smelly and old)
Planet Hollywood (maybe nicer now than it used to be, don't know for sure)
Riviera (shouldn't even be called on the strip)
Sahara (same)
Stratosphere (same, also weird)
Treasure Island (borderline could be on the middle list but it's weird so it goes here)
Tropicana (though I think they just did a massive remodel so maybe nicer than it used to be)
