What are the real world implications of having no speaker? Is it just embarrassing or is business at a stand still?

It would be completely unprecedented in the US, but if they dems aren't actively trying to peel off 5 moderate Republicans for a caretaker government they are doing themselves a disservice.

Then again, there is a distinct likelihood this is all theater and Jordan will gain votes and the pressure campaign will work to flip enough people to get in on subsequent votes today, remember McCarthy had to do 15 votes.

If Jordan doesn't wrap this thing up today though, then Dems should be pouring money in to target the Biden district/swing district R's and offering up a bland agenda of continued funding of government and a "seat at the table" as well as committee chairs and leadership positions to the Republicans who join the unity government.

I don't see 5 Republicans taking that bait, but getting crushed from both sides with the alternative being Manchin/Sinema level veto power would be a tough spot to put those little R weirdos in.

Yeah, I don't think they can bring any bills forward until there's a speaker

I get the impression (both here and generally) that dems would rather have a pub shitshow than work with some moderate pubs. But also maybe there are no pubs who want to work with them.

Yeah, I think it is more common than not unfortunately.  This whole thing is a colossal embarrassment.
Fifteen minutes later, when the Kansas locker room opened its doors to the media, the Jayhawks were still crying. Literally, bawling. All of them. I've never seen anything like it, and I've seen devastated college locker rooms -- after losses in the Final Four, the national championship game -- ever

Jordan is another Pub talker, that's it.

To take on whack-a-doo #blueanon legislators, they need more than talkers.

Easy to do when your motivation for being in Congress is just performing for the rightwing infotainment space.

It's hilarious and sad all at the same time.  At some point you'd think the voters in that district would actually want a Rep capable of pushing something through that could improve their lives hey maybe not.

Not sure what to make of it, but I've seen similar things reported by others as well.

Maybe it’s a good thing that the House can’t get anything done?

Nominating him is truly the dumbest thing I've ever seen. I'm certain that there are freedom caucus members who aren't subject to a sexual abuse scandal. He's relatively skated on the Ohio State Wrestling scandal because he's generally just a guy in the house and Americans generally don't give a crap about regular congressmen. If he were to become speaker of the house, that scandal would become encompassing.
