Lance and his staff are "just happy to be here" guys, there is zero chance any of them leave.

I think he’s either a Venzy type just waiting for a major payday or he’s one of those unicorns who realizes he’s really good at one thing and wants to continue doing that instead of chasing the bigger payday.

KU can match whatever money Iowa would throw at him. He hasn't stayed with Lance for a decade for no reason.

They were small time until 2 yrs ago. I don’t think that matters for much.  No one is going to limit their own career because you were in the mailroom with each other for 8yrs.

I doubt KU has the money to out bid a determined Iowa. And spending a decade in Lightpole's shadow makes my point.

If not Iowa somebody. I said Iowa because of the opening and for the spirit of this thread's entertainment value, because in the end who on this board gives a eff about Iowa.

Come on, man, they cannot, that's crazy talk, we can't either if they wanted to throw a bunch of money at Klein.

Kotelnicki is not likely to go to Iowa because he's more likely to either get a better OC job or head coaching job, but let's not make any mistakes here, Iowa is an infinitely better job than KU. I went back a decade and if their class holds it will be the first time in that decade that they were even within 20 spots of Iowa in the class rankings. The year that Lance took over, KU was literally 100 places behind Iowa in the class rankings. They've been more than 30 places behind Iowa than they've been closer than 30 places.

Are you talking about someone coming in and making him the highest paid OC in CFB? They already pay him 1M right now, which is like top 15 or so.

I'm assuming college football head coaches and ADs can see what the rest of us can

I don’t know much about the KU football, but if Kotelnikki is a good recruiter, I would guess he has more to do with the success than Lance. If he can hire a good recruiter, he may be a better HC than Lance.

How many of their games this year would it be true to say “first one to 14 wins”?

Technically in only one game did someone score 14 first and lose, w/ 2 that finished 10-7 and 12-10, so no one even got there. So I guess it would be accurate to say for 10 of 11 games?

I'm gonna be Rock Hawkeye'ing my ass off in the conference champ game. Would be amazing if they win it.

It's such a love-hate I have with Iowa, maybe it's just a morbid curiosity. I would agree it would be awesome for them to win, but they will get absolutely boat raced (see their Penn State game). And I find them absolutely gutting out wins as satisfying as them getting hung 40+ against an actual team. They are the worst good team there is.

There is no circumstance in which they would have won that Penn State game but if Cade McNamara didn't get knocked out of the game, it wouldn't have been anywhere close to that bad. His backup is an absolutely terrible quarterback, but as the season has gone along, they've game planned much better with him.

even accounting for the garbage offenses they've faced, iowa's defense is elite

snowbrag sos-weighted defense ranks:

1 ohio st
2 iowa
3 penn st
4 alabama
5 notre dame

their schedule is lol

#10 penn st  L 0-31
#45 rutgers  W 22-0
#49 iowa st  W 20-13
#56 wisconsin  W 15-6
#61 illinois  W 15-13
#72 northwestern  W 10-7
#74 minnesota  L 10-12
#78 utah st  W 24-14
#86 purdue  W 20-14
#90 michigan st  W 26-16
#107 western michigan  W 41-10

iowa's sos-weighted offense rank is #115. the difference in ranking between their offense and defense is the largest in FBS by a good margin

largest difference in sos-weighted offense & defense:

off/def rank (difference)
1 iowa 115/2 (113)
2 usc 2/97 (95)
3 utah 103/12 (91)
4 north texas 40/127 (87)
5 georgia tech 21/107 (86)
6 east carolina 126/43 (83)
7 lsu 1/83 (82)
8 ucla 83/7 (76)
.
.
.
21 kansas 16/75 (59)

in case anyone is curious, here are the most balanced teams (smallest difference between off/def ranks):

1 georgia 8/8 (0)
2t notre dame 6/5 (1)
2t oklahoma 13/14 (1)
2t missouri 23/22 (1)
2t tcu 53/54 (1)
6t michigan 4/6 (2)
6t duke 32/34 (2)
6t kent st 131/129 (2)
9t arizona 28/32 (4)
9t california 77/73 (4)
11t kansas st 25/20 (5)

So I heard Matt Canada is looking for a job.  He could even keep all his same color scheme gear!  Heck of a deal if you ask me.   Keep a decent W/L record, give the fan base someone to hate... it's a perfect marriage!

Their defense is definitely incredible. And their punter is a master at flipping field position and pinning them deep.

He averages 6.5* punts per game.

I can't even imagine being an Iowa fan and watching that week in and week out. I think that's why they always get incredibly drunk at The Other Place in OP.
Fifteen minutes later, when the Kansas locker room opened its doors to the media, the Jayhawks were still crying. Literally, bawling. All of them. I've never seen anything like it, and I've seen devastated college locker rooms -- after losses in the Final Four, the national championship game -- ever
