i don't pretend to know enough about how the senate works to understand why this is happening now, why it didn't happen earlier or what it means, but for whatever reason the senate appears to have given up on tuberville changing his mind and is voting to approve military appointments one by one.

i think, but i'm definitely not sure, that the downside is just that it's very slow to do them individually, because there are certain time limits or whatever that each motion has to fulfill.  so probably they'll just do the most important appointments and leave the others waiting on tuberville.
