Haggerty is our PG

So was TP. That’s my concern.

I can't tell if you are just gE'ng or not. Perry and Haggerty aren't in the same stratosphere.

lol at our Cats being Haggerty’s fourth school in as many seasons. Seems pretty good tho.
If there was a gif of nicname thwarting the attempted-flag-taker and then gesturing him to suck it, followed by motioning for all of Hilton Shelter to boo him louder, it'd be better than that auburn gif.

It seems that transfers tend to transfer a lot.

Not trying to say they are the same player other than TP was a great scorer that shouldn’t have been a point guard and from the admittedly very little I have read about Haggarty leads me to believe he came to us because he will play PG where he has been playing off ball so far. Makes me think he is here to show the NBA he can play on ball, leaving us with a second possible example where we have a shooting guard playing PG.  :dunno:

I admit I have done near zero look up of this kid and I am probably reading too much in to the situation given how little I have read about him.

Pop Isaacs chose ATM over Houston. Nice.

Hagerty measured at 6'2" and a quarter. Ain't no way he's playing SG at the NBA level, and ain't no way he pulled his name from the draft and came here if we ain't gonna give him PG experience.

Exactly my point.  So now we have a SG playing PG.  TP wasn't a PG, but played it here and it was frustrating to watch.

Is it just me or is comparing current players to former players always super cringey?

TP's failing was as a scorer, or specifically his 33.2 percent 3-pt shooting average. He averaged 4.4 assists and 2.7 TOs, pretty solid tho the TO rate could have been a bit lower, especially when playing along side of stone hands Cam. TP just struggled to get open on his own as a spot-up shooter on the Big 12 level. PJ is going to score and score at a high level. If he can duplicate Perrys assist/TO numbers, we're golden.

I get that. My attempt is to compare the situation of playing someone out of position and the result possibly being the same. Not that the players are similar to each other.

I would argue that a shooting guard not being able to create for himself as a pg is expected to bring down his fgp due to taking worse shots that he would if a pg was in place.

I'm a sunshine pumper but I am concerned that Haggerty has a really high TOr as a shooting guard but we're moving him to point guard. That being said the comparison to Tylor Perry is a bit foolish, for multiple reasons.

1. Haggerty is a better shooting guard
2. Haggerty plays completely different than Tylor did. Haggerty does get to the rim, in fact he's elite at it, probably the best in the nation. He's a developing 3 point shooter. Tylor was the opposite, he was a driveway shooter that we needed to get better at penetrating defenses. Tylor only took 94 2 point shots his senior year, Haggerty took 414 2 point shots last year. Tylor was really good at drawing fouls and getting to the line. He drew 4.5 fouls every 40 minutes and shot 176 FTs. Haggerty drew 6.1 fouls every 40 minutes and shot 274 FTs. He made 48 more FTs than Tylor shot his senior year.

Also you must be Mandela Effecting Tylor's senior year, because he was way better than you are making him out to be. His Offensive rating was 111.0, Markquis's was 111.3 his senior year. Steals, assists, and 2 pt FGs made were the only stats in which Markquis was noticeably better in. Markquis has the Big 12 record for assists* in a season and the NCAA Tournament record for assists in a game, there is no shame in not being a better passer than Markquis.

Apologies, he ended up two assists short of the Big 12 season record, 297 to Gottlieb's 299.

I like having a "get to the rim" guy at guard.  I think that's a crucial tool in stopping runs by the other team.

Especially when your offense is as clunky as ours typically has been under Tang.

probably would have been easier if we could have just kept dug

Cheesy Mustache QB might make an appearance.

No, the team was ass and poorly constructed but he was probably the worst starting point guard we've had since the Wooly era. We're replacing him with an all American. Even with the concerns I have about PJs turnover rate, I'm 100% sure he's going to be a better point guard than Dug.

man you and I have vastly different opinions on this dude.  you only have to look at who dug replaced to see a worse pg than he was.
