Coaching contracts
« on: December 28, 2022, 06:04:19 PM »
I know we just extended Kleiman but can we amend that to allow for a higher salary?  Doesn't seem like the extension would keep him here when other schools come calling...

He’s going to get a contract averaging 6M per year after the bowl game is over.  KU just paid Lance 5M a year, we can’t possible not pay our guy more especially given what other similar schools pay theirs. Would expect a hefty pay increase for assistants too.

The beauty of contracts is you can always change them if all sides agree.

6 sounds pretty good.  Much better than 4.3 or whatever was reported.

Mike Grundy makes 7.5 million a year and is the highest-paid HC in the Big XII.

well i’d be surprised if ham & potatoes coaches here for the duration of the contract.  klein is our hciw and probably takes the job in five years.

Yeah.  This is just a big fat stunt for optics.  Good to be able to tell recruits that you're contracted for the duration of their college career.

I anticipate Casserole Face coaching 4 or 5 more years and then handing the reigns over to Klein.

Even if he does coach the full duration, Klein would only be 41 and therefore a man.  Keep him happy salary wise and continue to give him more responsibilities/exposure to head coaching duties.  Make him associate HC or something like that.  Then he's ready to roll right in when Kleiman retires.

I'd be fine if he goes and takes a HC job somewhere else for a few years. Would probably prefer it TBH.

Klein isn't going anywhere. His weirdo jesus freak maga thing doesn't work everywhere. You gotta have some charisma to make that work and not have people make fun of you, like oscar Pearl. Plus he and his wife just started their Jesus freak maga homeschool thing.

So bc it doesn’t work everywhere he isn’t going anywhere? Not sure I understand that logic.

If that's what I said I wouldn't understand it either, luckily I didn't even infer that.
