And every SEC school and a handful of Big 10 schools will, at bare minimum, put out feelers for him next year if there's any indication that he isn't going to the NFL. So no, I think you preemptively do everything you can to keep him the happiest little plum that's ever existed.

Well the amount of money Coleman got wasn't an issue with him, it's not like he was a bum. The issue with Hawkins was that he was a career glue guy given a leading role and leading role money.

There's no doubt that Avery is the man and having his picture on a can of lemonade won't make a bit of difference on how he performs on Saturdays in the fall.

He wasn't awesome. He was one of the two best players on a very disappointing team. Al of his numbers were down from the previous season other than rebounds and assists. This wasn't his fault, it was his usage that him shooting 7% worse from the 3 point line, 7% worse from the field, and 22% worse from the free throw line.

More to the point of this thread, it's silly as hell to think that any issues Coleman Hawkins may have had will be any sort of and issue with Avery, he's the real deal and it's weird to be worried about it.

If not for that non-contact injury in the Colorado game who knows how many additional records he would have shattered. Like I get that injuries are part of the game so it’s kinda pointless to what-if about injuries, but when it’s a non-contact injury like that I’m willing to play the what if game, bc I’m not sure an injury like that was inevitable. But it definitely alerted the trajectory of the season in many ways
