A couple of months ago I went on TWO dates with a Ukrainian female who had come over here after the war started.

She was probably upper middle class in Kiev as she had a law degree, worked for the government as a lawyer then took a job as some sort of website design person for a western company because it paid more.

Anyways on the first date the war came up and I asked here to explain the russia/ukraine connection. (This is me paraphrasing)

Me: So you speak russian and ukrainian, explain the connection between russia/ukraine to me because from my understanding the two countries are kind of like cousins or something.

Her: eff the russians, the only reason I speak russian is because they made us in school.

Me: Okay

(10 minutes later)

Me: So how did you end up in Kansas City of all places?

Her: My cousin lives here, he is russian but moved here when he was 4 so he is alright.

Me: (Really wanted to say....so your like cousins...but didnt)

She left Kiev when the war started with her parents but as soon as her parents realized Russia was not going to conquer Kiev her parents went back after 6 months because as her dad put it "I'm 70 and going to die soon so what does it matter if its in missile attack" 

After waiting for 6-8 months she finally got whatever authorization she needed to get a job in the US and now works at the same company as her russian cousin and they carpool to work (Some sort of website/social media company)

Also she had never driven a car before coming to the US (Lived in Kiev and just took public transportation) so her russian cousin taught her how to drive. She was perplexed by all the hoops you have to jump through to get a car in the US. Credit Score? WTF? What kind of car do I want? (I talked her out of a KIA due to those KIA boys) I know nothing about cars, what happens if it breaks down? etc etc

Also all I could think about was BORAT when she spoke. She studied english in school and used it in her job some but she has only lived in the US for a year. So you would get some translations like this
