From my limited understanding, if they default it will mean very little on their ability to wage a war.  But it sounds like they are going to argue they had the means to pay the debt but are basically not being allowed to.

they seem to be under the strange delusion that fighting off the country that launched an unprovoked war of territorial aggression with an army that immediately began murdering, raping, kidnapping and enslaving people as soon as they crossed the border offers their people a better chance to live their lives and pursue their happinesses.

As long as the US is happy to pump billions of dollars of weapons in to Ukraine and Ukraine is happy to accept and fight I think this thing can go on for a long time. But I think there are plenty of questions as to whether that is a good thing from a number of perspectives.

it's still pretty weird to phrase the question in a manner that excludes the party that precipitated the action and is still the only party involved that can unilaterally terminate all hostilities from a discussion of how long the war will last and whether or not it's a good thing.

It goes without saying a unilateral withdrawal by Russia would be the best result, but that is very unlikely. So looking at the more likely scenarios I genuinely don't know what a multi-yr conflict would look like but I imagine it would involve a lot of killing so trying to look for alternatives is something we should be doing.
