this seems like a nuacned and technical situation with multiple variables

so my question is...

how can i turn this into a partisan issue that lets me point my finger at my political adversary?

$33 billion to Ukraine, tho.

Looks like our quick acting administration is finally starting to address this situation.  I'm sure they'll have a solution within months.  If you have a kid in Kansas (which is on the side of not having much supply) and can't find some, you can drive to Colorado or get on that breast feeding thing.
Fifteen minutes later, when the Kansas locker room opened its doors to the media, the Jayhawks were still crying. Literally, bawling. All of them. I've never seen anything like it, and I've seen devastated college locker rooms -- after losses in the Final Four, the national championship game -- ever

I have low kid IQ, but how many people use formula? For some reason, I always thought formula was something that lazy parents use and not some sort of essential thing. I'm sure I'm wrong, but that's been my long-held impression.

Some women can’t produce breast milk or it’s really difficult for them. There’s a whole industry built around making them produce with lactation specialists and crap. Mrs Dave did but it took some effort. Mostly like clogged ducts and pain and stuff for her. Also she had to pump constantly at work. And on her commute. We got like this portable milking machine deal. All this stuff I had no idea existed before. Massive pita.

After reading a 'Stone post, it occurs to me that this notion was probably implanted in my brain by my MAGA folks.

Nestle got in trouble back in the 70s for marketing baby formula to less-developed countries.  People would buy the baby formula and water it down to make it last longer which led to malnourishment of the babies

And, in many cases, women who successfully breastfeed for the first XX months eventually can't keep up with what the kiddo needs, so, at some point, you start supplementing with formula. And, in many other cases, the well (so to speak) could run dry, so you need to completely switch to formula. Most kids will eat mostly milk/formula until about 1 year old and then you transition to most nutrition coming from actual food.

Bottom line - being committed to breastfeeding kids from birth to the kid being 1-year old is a crap ton of work and requires a ton of time/dedication, etc.

The whole situation has been a joy to navigate with a nine month old.  We’re actually in a better spot this time than we were with our first who was 8 or 9 months when the pandemic hit initially.

But im on a few parent group chats and there it seems like people are just calling out new stock of formula at certain locations.

I know a lady who pumped her breast milk because she made more than her kid needed and donated it to a place for that kind of thing.

I read somewhere (probably this blog) that camel's milk is an ok substitute. So we just need to start dairy farming camels.

Yeah, why can't those lazy mothers just pull themselves up by their boobstraps?

my wife told me that breast feeding helps you lose baby weight which is 50/50 true or she was looking to motivate me with the handling, care, and daily cleanup of all the crap involved in keeping that pump primed.

Again, this was one of those unexamined beliefs that one inherits and then never has a reason to look into until something like this occurs. (Or, say, having a baby, which I don't have.)

Spracne, when I was young my grandma told me that spaghetti noodles grow in shallow ocean water and to this day it's very difficult for me to disregard that. So I get what you're going through.

Well, the important thing is a willingness to adapt, admit your own fallibility, and grow, you know?

My wife and I are both highly annoyed that one of the solutions being offered is strongly encouraging mothers to use breast milk. It's literally too PC to tell women who are able to whip out a tit and do what nature made them for. Yes, there are some who literally can't but most simply won't and it's infuriating.

my mom went to a catholic school and had a nun that if she drank milk with popcorn it would kill her and it at least stuck with her until she was a mother.

There are legitimately a lot that can’t. Two out of three of my sister in laws couldn’t. And not for lack of trying for sure. I think biology doesn’t help when you work too.
