RIP pvegs
« on: March 28, 2021, 09:31:12 AM »
Another great Cat gone too soon. This was shared on KSO by his father and I thought you all should be aware. I never met pvegs in person, but I always enjoyed interacting here and at KSO.

Quote
This is Phil Vega, dad of Paul Vega who was known by fellow Foundation posters as pvegs. He unexpectedly died early Wednesday morning March 24 at his home in Seattle. Paul was born in Kansas, but due to my job we moved when he was just 7. But he became a huge Wildcats fan. Prompted by me, KSU Class of 1975. And also his godfather who would send us VHS tapes of the games and annual basketball and football media guides.
Paul was lucky to begin being cognizant of sports at the start of HCBS‘s remarkable rebuild of the football program. This resulted in him being the only kid in his Arizona classrooms to be wearing a Michael Bishop jersey or other Wildcats gear.
The Cats played in several bowls while we were in Arizona. The most fun we attended was the 1997 Fiesta Bowl when we put it to Syracuse.
He was on this board daily, we would talk frequently about what you all were saying. And I know he direct messaged many of you to discuss all the fine points of Wildcats sports. Most every basketball and football game he and I would text sharing our disappointments and our thrills at various Wildcats plays.
Wherever he lived he brought EMAW fandom to every one he met. It’s something nearly everyone he worked with has mentioned to us in Seattle as we prepare for his services.
To close I want to say this board, this circle of fans, stretches across the nation. We are all bound together by our love of sports and the Wildcats. Those are ties that won’t be broken, no matter the success produced on the courts or football fields.

I remember him talking about his sister dying in the cancer thread. Parents had two kids and have now lost them both. Just crushing.

My God. Horrible to hear, especially that news that the parents have now lost both of their children. I liked this at the end of the obituary:

Quote
In memory of Paul, please enjoy the beauty of our national parks and support them through a donation nationalparks.org. Or give to the Kansas State University Foundation in support of students attending KSU at ksufoundation.org and then click on give to students.

Seems easy enough to do. SB will be taking SkinnierBenny and SkinniestBenny to the Jean Lafitte National Historic Park and Preserve next weekend for our guy pvegs.

Cat was always funny, I really thought I was going to get to hang out at a UW game with he and trim. He frequently talked about the special ed kids he taught, seemed like a really great dude.

What a gut punch.  I had a couple nice conversations with him about books and I remember he was tickled that I actually read a book he recommended. Sounds as though he made a difference in the life of many people.

May his memory be a blessing.

WTF?  I hadn't seen him in person for a couple years, partly COVID but also that he seemed to have gotten a lot of life structure and there weren't random times when he'd ask if he could put some freshly caught fish in my freezer for a few days.  He'd messaged me in November to tell me he'd been watching bachelorette with his girlfriend and hoping all was well.  Told him we were all just waiting for our 'chips and asked what he thought of the show but he never responded.

Also yeah, his avatar was my favorite of any on this entire blog.

If there was a gif of nicname thwarting the attempted-flag-taker and then gesturing him to suck it, followed by motioning for all of Hilton Shelter to boo him louder, it'd be better than that auburn gif.
