You're not one of those people who thinks he believes this crap, do you? Those nominations were a means to an end, and that was doing whatever necessary to bleed more cash from gullible republicans.

I'm not sure what you mean by he believes this crap. Republicans and Republican voters got tax cuts and judges that are most likely going to overturn Roe v Wade. Trump got an opportunity to take in some money. I don't think either of them are disappointed.

Does this not perfectly describe the grift?

I still see a difference between promising and failing to deliver things that would actually be good vs. promising and failing to deliver terrible and outlandish things to mouth breathing racists.

Agree. His toadyism and bootlicking have been bad for our democracy but I'm glad that he didn't totally go along with Trump's J6 shenanigans. Things could have been more terrible.
