I think this is the Covid effect.  Imagine coming from somewhere else to Manhattan and not being able to go out, party with large groups, go to class, etc.  Would totally suck and you would miss your family and buds.

We have three times as many players in the portal than anyone else in the league

that's not true

you're right that it's mostly their recruits, though, which isn't great.

Yes you're correct, we don't have 3x more than everyone else in the league. We have 10, right now, TCU has 6, UT, Tech, and WVU all have 4, everyone else has 3 or less.

I hope our staff is wearing out the F5 button on their QB transfer searches.

They actually have F.T.C. on their helmets, it's so cheesy.

God I hope so, because we don't have a decent QB on the roster without him.

I still think Will can improve a ton with spring practice and an off-season of weights, even though he is very bad right now.

Am I just a crazy optimist?

(Obviously Sky coming back would be best but you know)

I want him to be better.  You HIQ recruiting guys... is it true he lobbied coaches to recruit him?  He had a handful of Ivy League offers before he told Kli what a big Carson Wentz fan he was back in HS.

Yeah Tom, it's true.

Not to pick on you because you're a great poster and someone I consider a dear friend, but I think every single game howard's played the broadcast has done a little ~30 spot about that.

i think he could be pretty good. no one, including myself, likes to hear excuses (no spring practice, covid, receiver transfers/injuries, etc) but when you add up everything that's happened there have been a lot of factors going against a true freshman qb being successful.

I don't know that I see the upside but I agree that he hasn't had a good shot to succeed.  WR performance is every bit as bad as QB.  I think Howard could get to be a pretty good backup in his time here but don't think he has reliable B12 starter in him.

He'll definitely get better, far from a finished product, but right now it looks like his ceiling is Carson Coffman.

I think he's a far better runner than Carson ever was.

More capable as a runner, absolutely, as a passer, he's got a long way to go.

If Skylar is healthy, you welcome him back with open arms.

If he isn't, let Rubley and Will battle for the spot.

This program is still a few years from relevance (if ever with these coordinators?) so a year of development for either (or both?) could be huge... although frustrating to watch

i'm all for development but other programs let the young QBs do that while transfer QBs run their team. Even most of the 5-star #1 rated high school QBs in the country get a redshirt year before they get on the field. I'm not blaming Klieman for Skylar's injury but i am blaming him for not having an adequate backup to skylar.  Its one thing if your young QB is spencer rattler. He will still win you a lot of games while still developing even more. But when you throw something like Will Howard out there to develop it doesn't work for the program overall. the other guys are working their asses off just to get embarrassed every saturday because the coaches are "developing" a QB. the coaches owe it to the team to put a credible QB out there every year and let the development come predominantly from practice reps and mop up duty

This is one of those things where FB-QB-IQ doesn't necessarily relate to Ivy entrance criteria, and vice versa.

I don't know that being a turnover machine has anything to do with his intelligence on the field, dude just can't throw.
