Of course you do but I just want the same benefits homeowners enjoy

Try being a renter without the breeder benefits!

Preach, brother.

Currently, people making  > 400k of ordinary income are like the only people paying their fair share of taxes (especially those living in high tax states)

Get rid of all the loopholes
Tax capital gains as ordinary income (another loophole)
Gtfo with the rest of this crap

I don't understand complaining about raising capital gains taxes when you want them taxed as ordinary income.

I think Kim's mind might be blown at the median household income in the US

Yeah, the median household income in Brooklyn is about $67k.
That blows my mind, too! Granted Brooklyn is enormous.

Also I personally would need to make lifestyle changes if I were making $400k and paying full tuition for 2 private colleges. Not sure I'd call it "struggling" but there would be adjustments.

What are you anticipating paying for full tuition per child for a private college degree?  I'm assuming it would be close to 200k for 4 years at a minimum.

I don't think the government should pay anything for kids going to private schools. Not even subsidized loans.

When I've done calculators online it's usually $60-80k a year. Even at like big out of state public schools.

And one thing I've learned is a lot of colleges give need-based aid but it's generally based on the FAFSA calculation. And that's what I'm really missing out on.

Honestly they would probably get in-state or better at a place like KSU or ISU but it's not really on their radar because they don't love me or my money enough. (And because like all their friends will go to like top 20 schools)

Maybe if you write these schools hand-written letters explaining that your family has been able to overcome being born in Kansas, they will cut you some slack.

I can't tell if you are making a point here or just using this opportunity to point out that you currently make something more than $400k minus 2 years of full college tuition.

cRusty.  In my life I have attended both public and private universities.  In my experience there is no difference between the two.

On a professional level, I have had large major public universities as clients and multiple private schools as clients, including two that currently have a four year cost of $210K to $250K.  Utterly indistinguishable at the administrative level outside of individual personality nuances.

IMO, paying crap tons of money for a kid to go to a private school, is money wasted.  I've said it, I believe it, I will not change my mind.

I assume the rationale for going to a private college is the same as for a lot of private primary school. You’re paying for the privilege of rubbing elbows with other families who have cash to burn.

you substantially increase the odds that your child marries a fellow rich person.

other than that, i agree with dax, with the exception of about 4-10 private universities that i think do dramatically change life trajectories.
