CF3 jr. decided to go out for freshman football. He's played flag but never tackle. Regardless of how the season goes I told him I'm proud of his work. They work these kids hard with summer conditioning. He's up at school from 7-10 or 10:30 most days either conditioning or practicing. He's a pretty disciplined dude so I hope it pays off and it's a rewarding experience.

That's great stuff.

We have some friends of mine who live in the PNW. Their son is picking berries at a berry farm overnight. Going to workouts in the morning and then sleeping the rest of the day. I don't care what they say, there are some incredibly hardworking and disciplined kids out there.

This week the football team finished up summer practice with pads so CF3 jr. brought home his helmet and shoulder pads. I put my head through the head hole of the pads and as my face went through it the stench of odor was like a punch in my very face. I coughed/gagged. He had only worn them for one day so obviously these were stenches from like, years and years of stink. I odor-eatered the crap out of them but they are still p funky. Assuming normal and everything with football is pretty smelly?

They definitely smell after a few weeks, but not after a day. Sounds like he needs to take the pads off the shell and wash them. He can also febreze any pads that dont come off.

Yes, my football stuff always smelled. I think I would only wash the practice stuff once a week  :sdeek:

Sounds like the school is serious about the weight program. Cf3 jr is about to get jacked!
If there was a gif of nicname thwarting the attempted-flag-taker and then gesturing him to suck it, followed by motioning for all of Hilton Shelter to boo him louder, it'd be better than that auburn gif.

Haha, I think it varies by school on this stuff. Doubt it can kill him/you though!

I think the only time pads got washed was in the summer when we would walk through the sprinklers to cool down. I would spray water in the helmet occasionally.

The worst was the guys who never washed/changed their undershirt and practice pants.  :Yuck:

As a former teacher and coach I can attest that football and wrestling were the smelliest sports by far. I had to hold my breath whenever I walked past the wrestling room because the stink was so overpowering it was like a physical presence. Why is wrestling so smelly? I assume it's because wrestlers are gross and never shower.

Sounds like they don't clean it every day before and after practice.

As a former wrestler I can say that it was the 20+ people in a hot stuffy room the size of a normal classroom for 3 hours sweating their balls off while rubbing up against every surface spreading their sweat all over.

We always cleaned the floor/pads every day and I only got ringworm once! (And it was at a summer wrestling camp)

I'm guessing lil SD is like 5th/6th grade ish...Do they still have heavyweight and lightweight divisions or is it all a jumbled mess. IIRC in JOCO it was lightweight/heavyweight up until 8th grade.

Also if you were over a certain weight you had to wear a sticker on your helmet which meant you couldn't carry the ball...basically to prevent the 6th grader with a beard from steam rolling over everyone.

FCCJC scrapped weight divisions years ago.  Now they just  have the max weight for ball carriers.  Everyone else gets that helmet sticker of shame for being obese for their age.

When #2 played in college, they used to spray the pads down with some type of disinfectant deodorizer. Apparently, the equipment guy got the mix wrong and a bunch of the guys got mild skin burns from it during a game.

6th grade this coming season. Not through the middle school but feeder programs through the area HSs. No weight divisions in our league (MYFL). Very strict weigh ins though and above a certain weight you are a “striper” (one p) and have a stripe around your helmet. Can’t carry the ball and can only play on the line. We are the Junior Wildcats so obviously we whip ass. I coach them (so obviously we whip ass, lmao).

Also our team has never had a striper. We have like 15 deuce vaughns and 8 Arthur browns. Is very annoying. Need big kids so damn bad.

My Pee Wee football coach got mad at us complaining about bugs one fall practice and ran to his car, grabbled a can of Raid, and sprayed our legs down. I have no idea why he had a can of Raid in his car.
