I think this is a both sides thing (for gE, not irl because there are a lot of MAGAs out there obviously) but we can all agree that we need both Trump and Desantis or another mys MAGA to run (and stay running) so we get a mod-pub through, right? While the obvious choice is the Sasse-man I'd be on board with any number of mod-pubs.
The problem is mod-pubs don't really have different policy positions from the magas so the bully with insults and wild slogans wins
Yeah, I think something like 20% of Republicans (at best) are not hardcore maga. So a reasonable candidate would need 3 or 4 MAGAs to be in the race and split votes. And then if there are 2 reasonable candidates, they will have no chance at all. The best (sort of) non-MAGA candidate with any chance at all is Ted Cruz, and he is worse than Trump.
