So, I don't understand people.  I just sold my 8GB iPhone 3G (not 3GS!!!) for $200 on ebay.

And there are a shitload of people selling 3G's and 3GS's on there, so its not like there wasn't a lot to choose from a buyer's viewpoint.  I just listed it a few hours ago, and this guy flat out bought it (didn't bid or anything).  Verified through ebay and paypal, so he is real.

It wasn't even jailbroken (not hard to do, I was just lazy).  Can't be unlocked (upgraded firmware).  So either he wants it for parts or he is using it on AT&T pay as you go.

I listed it after the iPhone 4 announcement, and the announced price drop of a new iPhone 3G 8GB to $99 with 2 year contract.

So, being eligible for an early upgrade, I shave a few months off of my AT&T shotgun marriage and get the new iPhone basically at no cost.

A lot of countries can't get iPhones, so they are buying them and jailbreaking them.  Or people just want to use T-Mobile.

That's a good point about the 4G possibly coming.  I bet it will be a couple of years before we see it on AT&T, unless Sprint somehow starts kicking everyone's ass with service.  The AT&T 3G network is great when it works and horrible when it doesn't.  Verizon 3G works just about anywhere, even in crowded stadiums.  On AT&T you have to switch to EDGE to get it to work.

I'm pretty happy with my 3GS.  I guess the new one might be worth an extra $100, but the software is all gonna run on the 3GS anyway.  If you want something a little thinner and a Gyroscope splurge for it.  I'll probably just hang on to my phone at least until next June.

The only draw of the iphone 4, imo, is the display. Too bad they didn't up the size along with the resolution.
