Can confirm that the ICU situation is a real problem in Kansas. Also, Smallville citizens are refusing vaccine, then refusing monoclonal antibodies when they get sick but not sick enough to be in the hospital, then refusing remdesivir and steroids (but demanding zinc and vitamin C) when they get sick enough that they have to come into the hospital and then demanding to get sent to ICU beds that are full when they become profoundly hypoxic. I'm living in an actual idiocracy.

Because those treatments are recommended by "the medical establishment." I'm not sure how people make the leap from believing that the medical establishment cannot be trusted to seeking out help from a hospital that is staffed by doctors and nurses who belong to the medical establishment when they get sick. I'm emerging from the anger stage and moving on to numb acceptance at this point.

[Kid In the Hall]

The kid that sits immediately next to my second grade kiddo - as in, like, 2 feet away - caught COVID. Did we hear a peep from the school? Nope. Because the kids are wearing masks, virtually nothing is considered an "exposure risk" any time anyone - staff or student - catches COVID, so everything carries on as usual.

The only way we found out is that our kid was facetiming with the kid who caught it and it came out while they were chatting.

So, we kept our kid out of school the next day, took the whole family to get the PCR test and, thankfully, they were all negative.

But, warning to all the parents in schools/districts where kids are wearning masks - they all very likely may have the same view of exposure risks...

Sheesh. My antivaxx aunt sends me articles about ivermectin and how “the medical establishment “ is guilty of “crimes against humanity” for not embracing ivermectin instead of vaccines. I’ve had to block her email address because I don’t have the energy to engage with that garbage.

Another thing, a lot of people (I don’t know what percentage) who died in the winter surge lived in nursing homes and were never hospitalized (or if hospitalized, not moved to intensive care) because they were really frail at baseline and families opted for less aggressive care or simply comfort care measures. Delta is sending tons of people in their 40s and 50s to the hospital. I have a feeling things will get more weird/bad before they get better.

So..... I flew up last night for another work meeting in Detroit. Today was a freaking ringer. We started at 8 am est and didn't leave until 8:30 pm. Next thing I know, management comes into to say: "Someone who was here today, tested positive for covid. She was vaccinated, but we want you all to know". I had lunch with her and I help tutor this colleague on our craft. They told us to come in tomorrow if you're vaxxed and that anyone who isn't should quarantine for 10 days. I know I have a coworker I travel with who isn't vaxxed. So what's he supposed to do?

They just now texted us and said we're not going in tomorrow and they're rescheduling our day 2 meeting in two weeks here in Detroit.  Find a new flight home tomorrow and work in until checkout. Good god, the negligence right now.

Some are to me and Mrs SSOC directly and some are composed for a wider list. She quit Facebook after 1/6 and uses email as her main outlet for these screeds.

Funny ivermectin story. A few months ago, the High Plains Journal ran some articles touting ivermectin as a treatment for Covid. I knew I had real credibility with my dad when I was able to convince him that something published in the High Plains Journal was not gospel truth.

Today we instituted a policy that coming to the office or job site requires either vax or negative rapid test from the testing center down the street.

We had to upload a photo of our vaccine card to some website after we received both injections.

I was thinking about this and I get my hometown newspaper delivered (thanks mom!) and there was like ZERO debate about masks this school year because it was like duh no masks.

I did learn from the local paper that school buses are considered public transportation and there is a federal requirement to wear masks on public transportation. The school board mentioned that other districts were sending letters questioning that interpretation so that was also something our district was going to do. (you know the important stuff).

They also made sure to ban critical race theory, I think in the same meeting! Again, it did not appear to be debated whatsoever.
