Lockdowns (outside of initial panic) are dumb. Unopened schools are beyond dumb.
If there was a gif of nicname thwarting the attempted-flag-taker and then gesturing him to suck it, followed by motioning for all of Hilton Shelter to boo him louder, it'd be better than that auburn gif.

no one "locked down" outside of initial panic. I think there are reasonable arguments to keeping schools closed in certain areas with high case counts even though I think much of California has opened too slowly

wrong and wrong.  having fewer people die is good, actually.

I have zero issue with closed schools without a plan to immunize the teachers within them. If these pols felt like opening schools was so important they would have immunized teachers first, they could have gone through that tier much faster than they did with doing the olds first. Don't get me wrong, I do think it the tiers were prioritized correctly.

Opening schools have become another political issue. Pubs don't want unions telling them to do. Mental health concerns are legit and also overblown, but absolutely legit, but that isn't a pandemic issue, mental health issues with school aged children have been issues ignored by Republicans, and Democrats, for generations. Using mental health now is simply a political shield, and you'll see this when the school year ends, we continue to make strides in immunizations, and school aged mental health will no longer be discussed and there won't be a single solution thrown at the issue, just like it hasn't been since the 1980's.

Yeah it's like when a kid shoots up a school and mental health is blamed but no one who blames mental health has any intention of actually addressing mental health.

Also with case counts plummeting do you think we'll try to do like real contact tracing to really kick this thing's ass? Probably not but fun to think about

Kind of getting off topic here but serious question: What is underling the increase in mental health issues in school-aged kids? Seems like there is a rise in suicidality / suicide attempts.

the theory is isolation/lack of social interaction. Some kids never see their friends.

My kids have been doing sports and hanging with friends in the park or going to get ice cream or whatever even though schools are closed but I think quite a few kids are just at home all day.

We've talked a lot about walmarts and such requiring 'chips for entry as a way to get magas to 'chip. I hadn't thought about incentivizing them with glazed donuts, but I support it.

are you referring to an uptick since covid started or just in general? Because i remember seeing on some documentary that cited suicide/suicide attempts in school aged kids had skyrocketed since 2010 which was when facebook created their mobile app and i think just in general since 2010 so much social media is available via mobile app

Assuming that social media leads to more mental health issues imagine replacing virtually all face-to-face social interaction with social media

For the first time in over a year I stepped into a dining establishment where not a single employee was wearing a mask nor did they have any COVID related material in the establishment.  It was like COVID never existed.

Now the type of establishment and location doesn't make this a huge surprise (Dairy Queen in Nevada, MO).  I figured the franchise would have rules on this, though.  They had at least 6 people working, and all without masks.

Well I think it’s an important distinction when the former is presented to kids as reality (during non COVID times) and the latter (COVID lockdowns & schooling) is presented to them as a regrettable aberration.

Yeah I'm almost shocked DQ wouldn't have some sort of requirement for franchises beyond local ordinances. (they might actually, and a quick complaint to corporate might change things pretty quickly if one cared enough)

Yea they weren't even being lazy about it (like having facemask pulled down to their chin).  I saw no mask in hand, pocket, countertop, etc.  No Fucks were given.

FYI - DQ is firmly PRO-MASK until this thing's ass is kicked.

Or twinkies but great way to appeal to magas through their huge butter stomachs

Utterly disenginenius as always.   Goodness

The injection of perception of restrictions played a huge role across the board.

If that’s your hypothesis, I suppose you could always check to see if a country famous for not enacting lockdown measures fared any better.

There are a relentless number of variables that would come into play.
